Job Description - RN Obstetrics - Days

Part time dayshift OB RN. Every 3rd weekend and holiday requirements. Would work 2 shifts a week (7a-7p). 


Part-time days ( 2 -12 hours shifts per week) with rotating every 3rd weekend and holidays.


What You’ll Do



As an Obstetric Registered Nurse, you will provide safe, compassionate, and comprehensive care to patients. You’ll use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care while collaborating with patients, families, and the healthcare team. In this role, you will:



  • Deliver holistic nursing care by assessing each patient’s physical, psychological, social, and environmental needs, including age and cultural considerations.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans using evidence-based practice.

  • Ensure patient safety through accurate medication administration, adherence to policies, use of infection control principles, and proper isolation precautions.

  • Respond to changing census and acuity, demonstrating flexibility and accepting assignments in other areas, especially Med/Surg, as needed.

  • Manage assigned patients, delegating care appropriately and ensuring patient needs are met in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and the care team to support comprehensive, compassionate, and coordinated care.

  • Provide effective patient and family education about disease processes, treatments, medications, and care plans using understandable language and teach-back methods.

  • Deliver excellent customer service through use of AIDET, hourly rounding, bedside report, prompt response to call lights, and other Studer-aligned practices.

  • Maintain and grow clinical skills by completing required education, competencies, and certifications (BLS, NRP, fetal monitoring, etc.).

  • Support onboarding and development of new staff/students by serving as a positive preceptor and resource.

  • Contribute to a supportive team environment, delegating appropriately, communicating directly and respectfully, and avoiding gossip.

  • Document care accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record, participating in training and chart audits as needed.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support high-quality patient care and team success.

Required Education



  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)


Preferred Education



  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)


Required Licenses & Certifications



  • Valid Iowa nursing license (or license from a compact state)

  • BLS certification

  • PALS, NRP, STABLE, and ACLS completed within 1 year of hire


Required Experience



  • 1–2 years medical-surgical experience


Preferred Experience



  • 1–2 years obstetrics experience
