JOB SUMMARY

Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in an efficient and caring manner. Coordinates care planning with other caregivers and with other areas, adheres to universal precautions, and is compliant with infection control policies. Works independently with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Provides direct patient care in accordance with physician orders in a warm and friendly manner.

2. Takes and records measurements or readings.

3. Assesses condition and provides treatment for care of patient.

4. Administers prescribed medications.

5. Accurately captures all applicable patient charges and submits on appropriate form in a timely manner.

6. Demonstrates proper decontamination of instrumentation, re-sterilization and accurate completion of sterilization logs.

7. Facilitates cost reduction per procedure by not opening supplies that are not needed.

8. Participates in maintaining physician preference cards.

9. Accepts on-call schedule and responds to on-call activation within 30 minutes. 

10. Uses Affinity system to enter orders, confirm orders, print reports, etc. May use other software or computer programs required in area of responsibility.

11. May be asked to serve on department specialty focus team.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. BSN or Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field and current Ohio RN License. Candidate can be considered for the position if they are actively enrolled in an accredited, approved bachelor’s program or BSN program and can complete the remaining course work within two (2) years from date of hire.

2. CPR certification within 30 days of employment, and completion of ACLS within one year of employment.

3. One year hospital experience required (surgery)

4. One year operating room experience required (open heart)

5. Ability to circulate and scrub for cardio-thoracic procedures (open heart)

6. Ability to respond to on-call activation within 30 minutes

7. Ability to read, write and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff.

8. Ability to communicate well in an oral and written manner.

9. Ability to read, calculate and prepare medication, as well as the ability to observe and analyze any resulting reactions and to apply clinical knowledge.

10. Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities and carry out established plan

11. Demonstrates competence in age-specific patient care.
