Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to an average of 45-55 patients per day in the Emergency Department (ED).
• Maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3, with flexibility to adjust to 1:4 as needed.
• Perform bedside procedures with sedation and manage various emergency situations.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians and mid-level providers, to deliver optimal patient care.
• Monitor vital signs and interpret cardiac telemetry readings.
• Administer medications and manage common drips including Norepinephrine, Levophed, Cardizem, Heparin, Precedex, and Propofol.
• Assist in transport of patients to diagnostic imaging services (X-Ray/CT) as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license in Washington State.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC are required; TNCC is preferred.
• Prior experience in an ER setting is highly preferred; charge nurse experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with Meditech software is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies

• Ability to handle diverse patient populations with various diagnoses such as extremity injuries, abdominal pain, shortness of breath (SOB), sepsis, and chest pain.
• Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Team Structure

• The ED team includes dedicated physicians available 24/7 and mid-level providers from noon to 20:00.
• Charge nurses may take patient assignments while overseeing operations and assisting with the CODE team as necessary.
• Support staff includes ED Techs for basic wound care, splinting, and EKGs.

Work Environment

• The Emergency Department operates with RT assistance available 24/7 for breathing treatments and EKGs.
• Laboratory services are on-site 24/7 for blood draws.
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling options are available; flexibility in start times may be required.

Scheduling Requirements

• 12-hour shifts with variable start times (days may start at 7, 9, or 11; nights may start at 1 or 7).
• Weekend and holiday shifts are mandatory every other weekend and as needed during holidays.

Additional Information

• Nurses may be required to float to acute care or ICU settings when necessary.
• Scrubs are navy blue; scrubs are currently provided but may not be in the future.
