Job Description:

Registered Nurse - Operating Room (RN - OR)

Unit Overview:

• Operating Rooms: 4 OR suites (typically running 3) and 1 endoscopy suite.
• Average Cases per Day: 20-21 cases.

Required Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Common Cases:

• Orthopedic procedures (hips, knees, shoulders, ortho spine, TLIF)
• Hernias
• Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (lap chole)
• Obstetrical and gynecological surgeries (OB/GYN, hysterectomy, hysteroscopy)
• Urology procedures (cysto, prostate)
• ENT surgeries (tubes, tonsils, adenoids; includes pediatric cases twice a month)

Experience & Skills:

• Required Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of solid OR experience.
• Must Have Skills: Endoscopy and orthopedic experience are required. A well-rounded candidate is preferred. Robotics experience is not necessary.
• Scrubbing Requirements: RN's will not be required to scrub in.

Additional Roles:

• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: No house supervisor on site; a coordinator is available as needed. Charge nurses in the OR assist with operations and flow management.

Support Staff:

• OR Technicians available to assist.

Electronic Medical Record System:

• Meditech

Shifts & Scheduling:

• Hours: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
• Scheduling: 4 ten-hour shifts per week. Self-scheduling options available.

Call Requirements:

• Weeknight Call: 5:30 PM - 7:00 AM; 4 days a month.
• Weekend Call: 24-hour call; at least one weekend day required per month (Saturday or Sunday).
• Holiday Call: Department closed on major holidays; on-call as needed.
• Call Response Time: 30 minutes.

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to float to PACU for tasking is desirable but not mandatory.
• Scrub color and dress code will be provided.
