The Role

We are looking for an experienced and highly hands-on Mate to join a long-standing and very cohesive international crew on a well-established private yacht.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for stability and a settled programme, rather than a position focused on extensive cruising or high mileage. The yacht has been operating under the same programme for many years, with limited use and relatively few passages. The vessel is primarily used by the Owner and his family, with occasional guest entertainment.

The ideal candidate will be genuinely hands-on and proactive on deck, taking pride in the yacht and being actively involved in her day-to-day care and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Daily deck maintenance, cleaning and general upkeep
• Strong involvement in varnishing and exterior maintenance
• Supervising dayworkers involved in varnishing projects while remaining hands-on and assisting where required
• Regular maintenance and care of the yacht and deck equipment
• Supporting the Captain with navigational duties and watches during passages
• Assisting with paperwork and general operational duties
• Tender operations and deck activities as required
• Leading by example and being a proactive member of the deck team

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

• Solid experience in a Mate role on private yachts
• A strong hands-on approach and proactive attitude
• Good varnishing and exterior maintenance skills
• The ability to supervise contractors/dayworkers while also being willing to get involved personally
• Good navigational and watchkeeping experience
• Yachtmaster or OOW 500 preferred
• Sailing yacht experience is highly desirable
• A genuine interest in looking after and maintaining a yacht to a high standard
• Good organisational and communication skills
• A team-oriented, reliable and positive attitude
