Department: Safety and Security
Job Statement: Reports directly to the Environmental Safety and Security Director. Outlines and implements training programs to educate and inform workforce on work safety, environmental safety, and accident prevention regulations and procedures.
Education: High School education or completion of a GED required. Ability to obtain the CSC – Certified Safety Coordinator from TVPPA within the first 2 years or employment is subject for review.
Internal - Required bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety. Will consider in lieu of degree the graduate of HU apprentice in electric, gas or water with 2 years of experience in the operational field as well as have a demonstrated ability to identify and correct safety hazards.
External - Required bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
Experience: Prefer one (1) year of safety experience in a construction setting.
Physical Demands: Regular exposure to outside weather conditions, with the ability to bend, lift, walk considerable distances, navigate rough terrain, work from heights, understand hazards in construction zones and traffic safety requirements in highway work zones. Must be able to differentiate between colors. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs safely.
Equipment: Company vehicle (will be required to obtain CDL license) , two-way radio, cell phone, copier, personal computer, Microsoft Office (word, excel, PowerPoint), digital projector, digital camera. Experience with fall protection and harnesses, dosimeters, fork lifts and power industrial trucks, voltage testers and gas meters is a plus but not required.
Other: Good interpersonal, verbal and writing skills. Subject to call-out for emergencies. Familiarity with Huntsville Utilities’ safety procedures, and basic safety, health and environmental rules. Must possess and maintain a current valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Must be able to rotate on call duty with other safety team members to include nights, weekends and holidays.
This position is considered a safety sensitive position. All employees in safety sensitive positions are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
