Southwest Electrical Contracting Services, LLC is an electrical construction subcontractor headquartered in Converse, Texas. Since 2004, SWECS has delivered commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, data center, municipal, and related electrical work across South Texas and surrounding markets, with a field workforce that regularly exceeds several hundred employees. We are hiring a Safety Manager to lead the company’s safety program and keep crews, projects, and clients protected.
Position summary
The Safety Manager owns development, implementation, and day-to-day enforcement of SWECS’s safety and health program. The role is field-heavy: regular jobsite presence, coaching of foremen and electricians, and practical application of construction and electrical safety rules. The position reports to senior operations leadership and works directly with project managers, superintendents, and field supervision.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enforce the company safety manual, site-specific safety plans, and project safety requirements for electrical construction scopes.
- Drive compliance with OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926), OSHA electrical standards, NFPA 70E, the National Electrical Code as it relates to safe installation and energization, Texas Department of Insurance / workers’ compensation expectations, and applicable client and general-contractor safety programs.
- Lead the electrical safety program, including arc-flash and shock hazard awareness, energized electrical work permits, lockout/tagout, temporary power, grounding, and qualified-person requirements.
- Conduct job hazard analyses, pre-task planning reviews, and site inspections; document findings and verify corrective action.
- Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage; complete root-cause reviews and corrective-action plans; manage OSHA recordkeeping (300/300A/301) and related insurance reporting.
- Deliver and track training: new-hire orientation, toolbox talks, OSHA 10/30 coordination, NFPA 70E, fall protection, scaffolding, confined space, excavation, crane and aerial lift awareness, and task-specific electrical training. Maintain training records.
- Audit PPE use, including arc-rated clothing, voltage-rated gloves, fall protection, and hearing/eye protection, and confirm equipment is available and in serviceable condition.
- Support preconstruction and project startup with safety planning, submittals, and client safety orientations.
- Monitor leading and lagging indicators (inspections, observations, TRIR, EMR, near misses) and report trends to leadership.
- Represent SWECS during client, GC, and regulatory inspections and audits.
- Promote a stop-work culture and consistent accountability, including coaching and progressive discipline when rules are not followed.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of construction safety experience, with a substantial portion in electrical construction or a closely related trade.
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1926, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, arc-flash PPE categories or incident-energy methods, and temporary electrical installations.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction required; OSHA 500 or ability to obtain it preferred. Current NFPA 70E training required.
- CSP, ASP, CHST, or STS preferred.
- Experience writing site-specific safety plans, conducting incident investigations, and managing training documentation.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to active projects in the San Antonio / South Texas region and occasional out-of-area work.
- Strong communication skills with field crews, supervision, and clients. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
- Associate degree or higher in occupational safety, construction management, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered. Prior electrical trade experience is an advantage.
Working conditions
Primarily field-based across active construction sites, with office time at the Converse headquarters (9435 E. Loop 1604 N) for program administration, reporting, and training. Exposure to typical construction conditions: heights, energized equipment boundaries, heat, noise, and uneven terrain. PPE required on all sites.
What success looks like
Fewer incidents, consistent field compliance, crews that treat safety as part of the work, and a program that stands up to client and regulatory scrutiny without slowing production unnecessarily.
