The Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB) is one component of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB).  AIB includes the manufacturing facility in Talladega, Alabama and Birmingham, Alabama along with the operations of five Base Supply Centers in two states, which are located on Anniston Army Depot, Fort Rucker, Maxwell Air Force Base, Moody Air Force Base, Redstone Arsenal, and Robins Air Force Base.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Store Clerk role will be responsible for assisting in the operation of the retail store in the operation of a Base Supply Center/Individual Equipment Element in compliance with Javit’s Wagner O’Day Act, federal and military guidelines and Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB).

 

ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role in duties of cashier and all aspects of customer service of the Base Supply Center as you will be a part of the AIB team in producing high quality work.  This position reports to the Store Manager – Base Supply Center, Redstone Arsenal.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Must meet the federal definition of legal blindness. 

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience with internet navigation, email, electronic file management, and basic software applications. 

  • Must possess a REAL ID compliant STAR ID or valid U.S. Passport to access the military base. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with individuals who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, multidisabled, or have other significant disabilities. 

  • Minimum one (1) year of work experience in a retail store environment.

  • Minimum one (1) year of work experience maintaining inventory control.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative & Operational Excellence

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate computer skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and Google Suite, operate computerized point of sale database, and process credit card payments. 

  • Order Management:  Maintain accurate record of inventory, sales, and re-order of stock.  

 

Customer Relations

  • Pricing Management: Maintain accurate pricing for all merchandise and prepare displays to assist in increasing sales. 

  • Customer Service: Prepare customer orders accurately for pickup or delivery. 

 

Inventory & Logistics

  • Inventory Control: Participate in annual and periodic physical inventory counts, including re-supplying stock on shelves. 

  • General Support: Perform other job responsibilities as assigned. 

 

Compliance, Professionalism & Safety

  • Regulatory Adherence: Follow all AIDB policies and support the AbilityOne Program by remaining in compliance with the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act. 

  • Ethical Conduct: Conduct all business ethically and lawfully. 

  • Professional Attributes: Demonstrate a good attendance record, follow instructions, and deal pleasantly and courteously with the entire AIDB Team. 

  • Professional Development: Attend conferences, in-service training, and other functions as directed. 

  • Safety & Sensitivity: Comply with all safety requirements and attend Disability Sensitivity Training within the first six (6) months of employment. 

  • Cultural Competency: Develop an understanding of the cultures and needs of persons with sensory loss, ensuring all actions demonstrate respect.

SALARY:      $12.91 - $14.86        Scale IB Rank 23    

Direct deposit is required.

 

The work schedule is based on 8 hours each day with a total of 40 hours each work week.  This is not an exempt position, and is subject to overtime of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
