Saw Filer

Weyerhaeuser's Greenville Lumber Mill in Grifton, NC, has an opening for a Saw Filer with industrial experience. This position offers a starting pay rate of $20.87 per hour, along with a competitive benefits package.

This position operates on a rotating schedule, with employees alternating between one week of day shifts and one week of night shifts. Day shift hours are 5\:00 AM to 4\:30 PM, and night shift hours are 5\:30 PM to 4\:30 AM. Candidates must be flexible and available to work both shifts.

All candidates must be safety-conscious, self-motivated, possess strong communication skills, have experience working collaboratively with multiple crafts and departments, and thrive in a team-oriented, market-focused environment.

Candidates selected for this position will bench and grind band saws, hammer and sharpen carbide saws, troubleshoot and maintain filing equipment, and align sawmill equipment.
 

Key Functions\: 
The Saw Filer will be responsible filing room activities consisting of, but not limited to\: 

• Participate in safety meetings and activities as determined by team and mill norms and standards
• Benching and fitting bandsaws
• Sharpening, tipping and benching round saws
• Honing and maintaining knives
• Pour babbit, maintenance of guides and maintaining guide plane
• Complete PMs for sawmill and saw shop machinery as required
• Participate in reliability task teams or activities as required
• Help coach apprentices/operators to learn saw filing trade and help with PMs
   

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Mechanical background and aptitude
• Experienced with sawmill mechanics, saw change-outs, Bandmill alignment. Such as crossline between guides and wheels.
• Two years of working experience as a band saw filer and/or two years of precision Millwright experience.
• Knowledge of using precise measuring equipment, i.e., micrometers and dial indicators, etc.
• Good communication skills
• Willingness to work rotating shift schedules, weekends, and holidays as necessary
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and dependability
• Self-motivated and able to follow instructions precisely
• Be able to read, write and follow specific printed directions
• Ability to troubleshoot lumber for quality and size control
• Understanding of machine alignment procedures
• Resume detailing education and work history required for consideration

• Must be able to pass a computer base skilled test
