Scenic Artist

POSITION SUMMARY: 

In coordination with the Scenic Charge Artist, the scenic artist will facilitate the daily operations of the ZACH Scenic Studios paint shop. The artist will participate in the development of paint treatments, samples, and other pre-production processes to support all areas of ZACH business. Primarily, the artist will paint scenery, set pieces, and props to achieve the appropriate finished look for each production element in alignment with supplied and approved designs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Conducts tests and provides samples for approval by Scenic Charge, Technical Director, Scenic and Lighting Designers as well as production team to determine appropriate painting processes.
• Paints all scenery and props for the mainstage, family series, education, special events, and rentals as assigned by the Technical Director or Scenic Charge Artist. 
• Assists with fabrication of scenic elements in unique media such as foam, plastics, casting, etc.
• Assists in the maintenance and organization of the Scenic Studios and Paint Decks as directed by the Scenic Charge and Technical Director
• Assists in the layout and preparation of scenic and prop elements for paint treatments and application of unique media
• Assists in the preparation of digital layouts and prints to facilitate paint shop work using programs such as Adobe and Photoshop

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

• 2 Years Professional Scenic Painting or combination of education and work experience that yields the required skills and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

• Knowledge of Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or other imaging software.
• Knowledge of theatrical painting techniques
• Knowledge of safety regulations and best practice
• Ability to perform all work with a direct reflection of the vision, mission, and values of Zach Theater

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

This is a campus-based, on-site role. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. • Ability to lift, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 70 lbs. repeatedly, either alone or with assistance.
• Comfortable working on ladders, mechanical lifts or other high places.
• Comfortable working in confined spaces.
• Comfortable working in spaces which regularly exceed temperatures of 95 degrees

Supports: Production

Peer collaboration/communicates with: Scenic Charge Artist, Scene Shop Coordinator, Technical Director, and Assistant Technical Director

PAY:

This is an hourly non-exempt position starting at $19.50-22.00 commensurate with experience and qualifications. New hires are typically brought into the organization between the minimum and midpoint of the range posted depending upon qualifications, years of experience in a similar role, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
