Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Dynamic, community oriented leader for the Rome Area Before and After School Summer Day Camp Program. Able to engage staff, participants and the community in ensuring an energetic committed enrichment program success. 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction and supervision of the School Age Child Care Regional Director, and in harmony with the Christian nature and purposes, and the established policies, goals and objectives of the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley, the School Age Coordinator works as a supportive leader among staff to provide effective programs and a warm, safe, loving and nurturing environment in which the child can grow physically, emotionally and intellectually. Oversees programs and staff working within the Rome YMCA YCare area, works with area schools, ensures NYS OCFS regulations are followed. Provides both direct care and administrative support to program full year including vacation days, summer and school year.

Essential Functions  

1. Develops, implements and manages operating plans, events and schedules to promote program and/or membership growth and retention for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.

2. Recruits, trains, develops, evaluates, recognizes, holds accountable and directs staff and volunteers in assigned areas, in order to ensure safe, high-quality member focused services through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing staff training. Ensures staff certifications are current and complete. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

3. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. 

4. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

5. Ensures quality results by monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness and adhering to program standards. Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.

6. Monitors daily operations and ensures compliance/training with all state and local licensing/regulations (including but not limited to OCFS, YMCA Best Practices, and Department of Health policies. 

7. Ensures that all procedures are followed and accurate records are maintained.

8. area of expertise lesson plans, implements lessons and supervises a group of children and program activities.

9. Supervises Site Directors, Site Supervisors and other YCare staff - ensures high work quality and accountability, ensures discipline measures are addressed.

10. Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley, NYS Office of Children and Family Services and NYS Department of Health (where applicable), YMCA Child Safety Code of Conduct, Emergency and Safety procedures, makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.

11. Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y’s values.

12. Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

13. Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.

14. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; connects families to the Y.

15. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.

16. Performs other duties as assigned.

17. Is committed to maintaining a workplace free from all forms of harassment

18. Follows staff screening requirements and uses screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. 

19. Provides staff with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.

20. Provides staff with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.

21. Requires staff to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.

22. Responds quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.

23. Responds seriously and confidently to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors. 

24. Follows mandated reporting requirements. 

25. Communicates to all staff the organization’s commitment to protect their youth from abuse.

26. Maintains current CPR, First Aid and AED Certification

27.  Must be over the age of 18 years old

28. Must meet all Association-Wide training requirements in addition to those set forth by their Supervisor.

29. Must be able to pass a Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry Background Screening.

30. Must ensure that the physical and social environments for program delivery reflect the Y’s definition of character and values

31.  Must meet the qualifications to be a School Age Child Care Multi-Site Director according to New York State Office of Children and Family Services Licensing requirements.

Must meet the following Education and Experience Requirements

*Associate's degree or higher in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a  related field 

AND

Two years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.

$50,000-$55,000 per year
