School Registered Nurse (RN) - Full Time 2026-2027 School Year

Job Title: School Nurse  

Job Overview:

The School Nurse will play an essential role in supporting students through the special education assessment process by conducting health assessments for initial IEP evaluations and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure students receive appropriate educational and health services.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive student health assessments for initial IEP evaluations.


• Perform vision and hearing screenings in accordance with district and state guidelines.


• Review student health histories and maintain accurate health documentation.


• Collaborate with physicians and other medical professionals when additional medical information or clearance is needed to complete an assessment.


• Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and multidisciplinary team members throughout the assessment process.


• Maintain confidential student records in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and applicable state and federal regulations.


• Ensure assessments are completed within required timelines.


• Participate in team meetings and provide professional recommendations regarding student health needs.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

• Ability to perform vision and hearing screenings.


• Ability to travel between assigned school sites as needed.


• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform duties associated with school health assessments.


• Experience conducting school-based health assessments.


• Experience with initial IEP evaluations.


• Familiarity with California education and health regulations related to school nursing.

Education/Experience & Other Requirements

• Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License.


• Valid California School Nurse Services Credential.


• Current CPR/BLS Certification.


• Knowledge of special education procedures and the IEP assessment process is preferred.


• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.


• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Working Environment: 

This position typically works in a school setting. 

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (some flexibility available)

Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $50-$60/ Hour
