Reports To: K-12 School-wide Principal
Probationary Period: 90 days – Full time
FLSA Status: Exempt (salaried)
Classification: Child Related CA
Driver’s License: Level 3 – Driver’s License Required.
Rate of Pay: $62,130.43 to $69,896.74 salary


Responsibilities


  • Curriculum and programming is guided by our 7 Teachings.

  • Incorporates Ojibwe into MN Academic Standards.

  • Assists staff to be cultural competent.

  • Receives, reviews, and analyzes requests for all changes in cultural course-work.

  • Works cooperatively with Education’s Curriculum Developer and assists in all assigned projects.

  • Assists all school staff in the preparation and presenting of new or modified cultural courses, programs, and/or requests.

  • Schedules all requests for review by Superintendent and School Board.

  • Supervises the organization, maintenance, storage, and retrieval of all curricula materials.

  • Coordinates scheduling of all cultural classes in cooperation with the School Career Counselor.

  • Manages the School-wide cultural curriculum, including the Ojibwemowin Drum and Dance Group, Quiz Bowl, and daily classroom cultural lessons.

  • Prepares reports of cultural curriculum (and other reports as assigned) for the school board.

  • Schedules, assigns, and prioritizes workloads, including setting appropriate deadlines and ensuring the completion of work.

  • Assist in the development of oral Ojibwe language digital voice and video recordings.

  • Prepares an annual operating budget of all language and cultural programming and submits the budget to the Building Principal for review, recommendation, and subsequent approval.

  • Performs all duties delegated by the Building Principal.

  • Coordinates and schedules all cultural activities.

  • Transports students and/or staff to off-site special events and delegated by the building Principal.

  • Represents the school and the Reservation at the appropriate public and private functions (i.e., training sessions, conferences, grant agencies, and foundations.)

  • Schedules and attends all meetings and conferences as necessary to improve the school’s language and culture program.

  • Serves as an active participant on the School Improvement Team.

  • Attends all staff development and training, as necessary.

  • Attends all regular and special School Board meetings.

  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids appropriate to the interests and maturity levels of students; maintains required inventory records.

  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.

  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

  • Work with the staff in developing new programs for use in the classroom and the school.

  • Provides a variety of instructional methods to assure that all students receive instruction that is compatible to learning styles.

  • Provides feedback to the principal when necessary, so that normal operation is assured.

  • Develop culturally appropriate curriculum.

  • Actively advocate and demonstrate appropriate adult child interactions.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with all staff and community members.

  • Maintains professional standards toward creating confidential relationships with all program participants and staff.

  • Establish and maintain an attractive, safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate environment for the children.

  • Appropriate work attire is required.

  • Must attend all mandatory department trainings.

  • Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.

  • Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.

  • Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.

  • Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.

  • Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.

  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.

  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.




Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License issued in the US is required.

  • Eligibility determined by FDL's insurance company.

  • Bachelor’s degree or a current Minnesota Ojibwe language culture or history license is required.

  • Three years professional experience in integrating cultural concepts into a regular curriculum; knowledge of curricula and academic structures; and proven administrative and supervisory skills is required.

  • Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, data entry and databases, spreadsheets and Microsoft is required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.

  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required.

  • Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.

  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.

  • Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.

  • Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.

  • Travel is required.
