Seasonal Basketball Coaches

The Basketball Coach is responsible for supporting youth sports programs by coaching teams in a safe, structured, and positive environment. This role focuses on promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, skill development, and adherence to program rules and guidelines. 

Our coaches serve as mentors, fostering leadership, humility, teamwork, and responsibility both on and off the court. We are dedicated to shaping well-rounded individuals who thrive not only in sports, but in life. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and lead engaging practices focused on skill development and teamwork  
• Teach basketball fundamentals in an age-appropriate and inclusive manner  
• Foster a positive, respectful, and team-oriented environment  
• Supervise participants and ensure their safety at all times  
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, and program staff  
• Promote good sportsmanship and character development  
• Assist with set-up and clean-up of equipment and facilities  
• Support game-day operations, including basic game management as needed  

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION

• Previous experience coaching basketball or working with youth preferred 
• Knowledge of basketball rules, techniques, and gameplay 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
• Ability to work with youth of varying ages and skill levels 
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work evenings and/or weekends 
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain) 

WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING

• Travel between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles sites and schools and various field trip sites as well as in the community is required. Must meet the insurance standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles.
• This position may be assigned to any sites within the Club as needed to accommodate changes in programming, staffing, or operational requirements.
• Hours are based on school calendar and attendance patterns/trends – evening hours are required during the school year; hours will vary during summer and school breaks; occasional weekend hours are required

Work environments may vary, encompassing both indoor and outdoor conditions based on activity locations. Additionally, interactions with youth and adults may involve moderate to high noise levels during activities. Physical exertion may be necessary to move and transport supplies and equipment.
