Seasonal Events and Education Chef Independent Contractor (1099)

Role Description

Eataly’s on-site cooking school, La Scuola, provides guests with opportunities to learn about and experience Italian cuisine through cooking classes, demonstrations and private events.

Eataly is seeking a Seasonal Events and Education Chef to provide culinary education and event services on an independent contractor basis. The contractor will support select La Scuola programming by developing and delivering culinary classes, demonstrations and private events, as well as providing related menu development and culinary preparation services.

The contractor will work independently within the agreed-upon scope of each event or program and will coordinate with Eataly’s Events & Education team regarding event details, menus, timing and logistical requirements.

Scope of Services

• Develop and deliver demonstration and hands-on cooking classes for private and public groups
• Prepare, demonstrate and execute menu items for La Scuola classes and events, including savory and occasional sweet preparations
• Coordinate the culinary preparation, setup and breakdown required for assigned events
• Develop and propose menus in collaboration with the Events & Education team and, when applicable, clients
• Provide culinary guidance related to menu planning, recipes, ingredients, food preparation and execution
• Coordinate event-related food preparation and communicate relevant menu changes, allergies and dietary restrictions to the appropriate Eataly team members
• Maintain appropriate food safety, sanitation and professional kitchen standards while providing services
• Provide recommendations regarding food products, ingredients, kitchen supplies and equipment needed for assigned programming
• Support the development of seasonal culinary programming and special events
• Provide other culinary services specifically agreed upon as part of the contracted scope of work

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional cooking experience
• Experience teaching cooking classes, demonstrations, culinary workshops or similar programming preferred
• Strong knowledge of kitchen equipment, food production procedures, and food safety and sanitation practices
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and educate groups
• Experience with menu development and recipe creation
• Italian culinary experience or knowledge is helpful, but not essential
• Food Handler’s License

Contractor Requirements

• Ability to provide services onsite at Eataly King of Prussia as agreed upon for scheduled events and programs
• Ability to provide services during occasional evenings, weekends and holidays based on mutually agreed-upon event dates
• Ability to independently perform the contracted culinary services and meet agreed-upon event and program requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely perform the physical activities required for culinary event services
• Contractor is responsible for maintaining any required licenses, certifications and insurance applicable to the services provided
• Contractor will be responsible for applicable federal, state and local taxes associated with independent contractor compensation

Compensation

Compensation will be determined based on the scope and nature of the contracted services, experience, and individual event or program requirements.
