Seasonal Laborer - DPW

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Public Works Director or their designee, this position is responsible for carrying out daily labor and assigned tasks both indoors and outdoors. Activities included, but not limited to, the maintenance and landscaping of athletic fields, beaches, parks, Town Hall grounds, Senior Center, Deerfield Park, and town-maintained cemeteries.  This individual may be assigned to operate equipment and/or perform manual labor, and other duties as assigned.

Required hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (May - December, weather permitting)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Operate, maintain, repair, lift, and clean cutting equipment.


2. Be a self-starter, work independently on assigned tasks.


3. Interact positively with the public in a courteous manner.


4. Be able to read and comply with instructions, especially on safety equipment.


5. Be in good physical condition to be on one’s feet continually.


6. Perform physical labor and mechanical duties in the maintenance and minor repair of all municipal equipment.


7. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Public Works or his designee.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1. Current Driver’s License in good standing with the State of Rhode Island.


2. Knowledge of landscaping and maintenance procedures, as well as other skills, would be beneficial (i.e. painting)


3. Promptness and attention to detail.


4. A High School Diploma or GED preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to lift objects up to 75 pounds above waist level.


2. Ability to handle machinery and make minor repairs to such equipment.


3. Ability to effectively communicate verbally.


4. Ability to walk through rugged terrain.
