Harris Beach State Park is seeking a Seasonal Park Ranger 1, Interpretive Ranger who enjoys working with people, sharing meaningful park stories, supporting campground operations, and contributing to a safe, welcoming, and well-managed park environment.

Your New Role

This position is a great opportunity for someone who is service-minded, dependable, organized, and excited to work in a busy coastal park setting. The successful candidate will assist with campground duties, visitor contacts, interpretive and educational opportunities, safety and stewardship messaging, basic maintenance support, facility checks, rule education, and daily park operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

OR

  • An Associate's degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field; AND Six (6) months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

Special Requirements:

  • To be hired, a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid driver’s license.

Desired Attributes:

  • Direct Campground Operations Experience
    Experience with campsite checks, patrols, visitor assistance, check-in/out, reservations, fee compliance, rule education, host coordination, and responding to camper needs.

  • Working Knowledge of Campground Systems and Visitor Flow
    Understands daily campground operations including arrivals/departures, occupancy, reservations, site concerns, visitor questions, host coordination, campground rules, and timely communication.

  • Public Contact and Visitor Service Experience
    Experience assisting visitors or customers, answering questions, explaining procedures, resolving routine concerns, and maintaining professionalism in all interactions.

  • Interpretive or Public Education Experience
    Experience providing interpretive programs, guided walks, presentations, stewardship messaging, or visitor engagement related to natural, cultural, recreational, or safety topics.

  • Operational Communication and Documentation
    Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, staff, hosts, or visitors; relay concerns; follow direction; and document issues to support smooth operations.

  • Organization, Time Management, and Reliability
    Ability to manage duties, prioritize tasks, stay organized, meet expectations, and adapt to changing campground or visitor service needs.

  • Basic Campground Maintenance and Park Operations Experience
    Experience supporting routine campground and park operations, including site inspections, restroom and facility checks, litter and trash concerns, signage issues, minor repairs, trail or access checks, hazard identification, light maintenance tasks, opening and closing duties, and communicating or reporting operational concerns as they arise.

  • Safety Awareness and Sound Judgment
    Ability to recognize safety concerns, follow procedures, communicate issues, respond professionally, and elevate situations appropriately.
