WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Develops, supports, and manages systems and structures for transition to kindergarten and family engagement activities.  Supports staff in the creation and implementation of activities. Builds and enhances communications and partnerships with childcare centers, families, and schools. Collaborates with other departments, schools, agencies, and community groups to assure coordinated efforts in the transition to kindergarten and family engagement activities. Plans and implements professional development activities and technical assistance for staff.  

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Title I and Special Education legislation and federal, state, and   local regulatory requirements applicable to the programs;

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) and North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten guidance and assurances;

  • Considerable knowledge of best practices with family engagement to support the needs of families from diverse background and various styles;

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;  

  • Demonstration of leadership and team building skills; 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to execute presentations, including adult learning techniques; 

  • Ability to provide leadership in outreach, public relations, and communications;

  • Ability to work independently to effectively solve problems in complex work situations and handle highly confidential material;

  • Ability to develop and implement strategic objectives aligned with school system mission and goals;

  • Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget;

  • Ability to coach and mentor employees;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Child Development, Educational Administration, or related field;

  • Five years of teaching in an elementary school or a preschool facility.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License for School Administrator, Principal, or Curriculum Instructional Specialist;

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed (evenings, weekends).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides leadership for the development, coordination, and implementation of transition to kindergarten and alignment of family engagement for preschool families.

  2. Develops systems and structures that increase communication between childcare centers, families, and schools as the transition to kindergarten occurs.

  3. Develops, conducts, and supports kindergarten orientation, community presentations, resources for families, and partners in the community. 

  4. Aligns, develops, and supports family engagement activities in the department.

  5. Manages, analyzes, and reviews data and processes to improve resources.

  6. Collaborates with the elementary team to ensure alignment.

  7. Seeks and manages the budget and resources for the funding of educational programs.

  8. Seeks various central services, school-based, and community-based staff to support program initiatives, implementation, and evaluation. Represents the Office of Early Learning on various committees and/or task force groups.

  9. Coordinates positive public relations and outreach. Supports the development of transition to kindergarten and family engagement website, products, and systems of communication to the public and within the school system.

  10. Promotes community understanding and support, including use of community resources.

  11. Maintains current knowledge regarding ongoing requirements of related federal and state legislation. Reviews current research, studies, and reports as a basis for program planning. Evaluates findings and makes recommendations to improve existing programs. Evaluates long and short-range goals to determine effectiveness and to identify needs.

  12. Adheres to local, state and federal school laws, policies, and regulations. Interprets educational policies, programs, and procedures to a variety of audiences. Serves as liaison between the school system, and local, state, and federal agencies.

  13. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.
