Senior AI Engineer

Are you a Research Engineer who builds agentic AI systems at the frontier and wants to point them at one of the hardest problems in finance, here in New York City?

My client, a highly respected long-horizon hedge fund, has launched a small, elite AI group with one goal: build an AI that can research and invest better than the best humans. They are hiring their first Senior Research Engineer to architect the agentic system at the center of that effort.

I am partnering directly with the founding team on this search. If you want to be one of the first technical hires on a well-resourced, ground-floor AI effort backed by an established firm, then this is the role for you.

What's the Job?

You will design, validate, and deploy the agentic system that powers every research and investment decision the group makes. You will work hand-in-hand with the group's co-head, a deep domain expert, on problems like these:

- Architecting a harness that reliably delivers superhuman breadth and depth on difficult, individual research tasks.

- Building a system where hundreds of agents collaborate on long-running research projects and keep learning from the collective experience of the whole fleet.

- Developing a trustworthy validation framework that makes rapid iteration and continuous self-improvement possible;

As one of the first technical hires, you will also help grow the broader team, shape the group's research and development environment, and set its culture from day one.

Compensation

• $400,000 - $800,000+

• Highly competitive and commensurate with experience, with the full resources of an established hedge fund behind the work. Details will be shared directly with qualified candidates.

Qualifications

- Experience operating as an applied researcher and builder at the frontier of AI.

- Hands-on experience building robust agentic systems that are reliably useful in production.

- You love finding new ideas in research papers and quickly testing them in practice.

- A self-starter with a bias to action, and the tenacity to push through projects others might call impossible.

- Energized by steep learning curves and constantly expanding your skills.

- Confident but intellectually humble: strong opinions, loosely held.

- You have been part of, or helped lead, world-class technical teams and are excited to get in on the ground floor of something new.

- No finance background is required.

Location

New York City, working in person and closely with a small team of smart, kind, driven colleagues. Candidates willing to relocate to NYC are welcome.
