Job Description - Senior Analyst, Sexual Assault and Harassment Prevention and Response (SAHPR)

Bring Your SAHPR Expertise to Work That Matters

Federally sponsored research runs on trust—and trust depends on strong policy, clear guidance, and people who understand this work firsthand. Potomac Haven is looking for a Senior Analyst with real, hands-on experience in the sexual assault and harassment prevention and response field to support the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Sexual Assault and Harassment Prevention and Response (SAHPR) Program. The NSF SAHPR program office serves as NSF's central point of contact for the coordination of response to sexual assault, sexual harassment and stalking incidents and is responsible for overseeing comprehensive prevention practices

This isn’t a generalist writing or analyst role. We need someone who has worked in this space—prevention, response, victim services, or a comparable misconduct or advocacy program. We need a candidate who can bring that judgment to both sides of the work: researching and analyzing the policies, regulations, and emerging issues that shape the program, and translating that analysis into the FAQs, guidance, and communication that put it into practice. You’ll help shape how NSF explains and interprets its stance on sexual violence issues to the research community it serves and the researchers it funds, and you’ll be trusted to get the substance right, not just the sentence structure.

If you know this field, write and edit at an expert level, and want work with genuine stakes, we want to hear from you.

 What You'll Do

  • Support the development, review, modification, and maintenance of SAHPR regulatory policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Develop SAHPR-related policies, guidance, standard operating procedures, and FAQs that are clear, consistent, and accessible to employees and stakeholders.
  • Write and edit high-quality products that accurately explain and interpret the agency’s stance on sexual violence issues, adhering to the NSF Style Guide for accuracy, clarity, and conciseness.
  • Conduct editorial reviews for grammar, style, consistency, and clarity. All writing will weigh audience, policy implications, and compliance with agency and NSF Office of the Director practices.
  • Prepare and edit materials for varied audiences that explain complex SAHPR policies, programs, and functions.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform new or revised policies, procedures, guidelines, and informational materials. This work often requires substantial analysis to present accurate, well-supported findings.
  • Manage the day-to-day administrative affairs of the program on behalf of the client.

This role involves regular engagement with content related to sexual assault and harassment that may be traumatic or triggering. Candidates should be prepared for this reality and equipped to handle it professionally.

Note: We will not respond to inquiries from staffing agencies.

Requirements

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Genuine subject matter experience in sexual assault/harassment prevention and response, victim services, or a closely related advocacy field. This is the core qualification for the role.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated skill developing policies, procedures, guidance documents, and FAQs.
  • Strong technical writing and editorial ability, with experience adapting complex material for different audiences.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis to support policy development.
  • Discretion and professional judgment handling sensitive material.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Communications, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Human Services, or a related field. Master’s degree strongly, strongly preferred.
  • Authorization to work legally in the United States.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust suitability determination. Sponsorship is not available for this opportunity.

Preferred

  • Trauma-informed, survivor-centered training or experience.
  • Prior policy work within a federal agency, ideally NSF or a comparable science agency.
  • Familiarity with federal style guide standards and agency clearance processes.

Logistics:

  • Location: Primarily on-site at NSF Headquarters in Alexandria, VA with possibility of telework.
  • Travel: Occasional, for meetings, trainings, and stakeholder engagements, including at our headquarters in Tysons Corner, VA and the client site in Alexandria, VA.
