Position Overview The Senior Communications Strategist leads and manages public relations and content marketing operations in Korea and the surrounding East Asia region. Reporting jointly to the Korea Office manager, Public Relations manager, and the Regional Content and Magazines Lead, this role serves as a bridge between Rotary’s global communications objectives and their implementation in Korea and the broader region. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with accomplished colleagues to brainstorm and develop international and regionally effective strategies and implement agreed upon approaches and tactics. Your contribution will serve to broaden the reach and expand understanding of Rotary - who we are, what we do and our positive impact in communities. You Will Have
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Professional proficiency in English and native fluency in Korean.
- Native knowledge of Korean culture, society, and history.
- Solid media relations experience with a proven track record of securing media coverage results.
- Professional knowledge of digital communications and content marketing.
- Strong multicultural sensitivity and deep understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
- Well-versed in current events at the local, national, and international levels.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, collaboration, multi-tasking, strategic thinking, and organizational skills.
- Additional proficiency in Japanese and/or Chinese desirable.
- International experience is desirable.
- Public Relations agency, consumer, and business media experience is desirable.
- Ability to travel on domestic and international assignments.

- Traveling to projects and events in the region for training, story-mining, and networking.
- Occasionally working early mornings or late evenings as needed to collaborate with team members in different time zones.
- Occasionally working after-hours or on weekends as assigned to support communications plans or Rotary events.

- Counseling senior executives and leaders on media relations activities.
- Managing multiple projects and priorities.
You Will Be Responsible For
- Developing and implementing proactive media relations outreach strategies in Korea and the surrounding East Asia region to increase public awareness and understanding of Rotary.
- Identifying and coaching Rotary spokespeople for media interviews; providing briefings, key messages, talking points, and answers to anticipated questions to enable the spokesperson to effectively and favorably represent Rotary.
- Managing reputational issues by developing and implementing response strategies in accordance with Rotary’s Crisis Response and Reputation Management plans.
- Developing and leading media training, messaging sessions and interview briefings and preparation for Rotary’s senior leaders (volunteer and staff) and working closely with colleagues across teams and consultants on messaging and content.
- Collaborating with colleagues to develop story ideas, content, and plans that incorporate news trends, approaches, and tactics.
- Formulating accurate and timely responses to media inquiries that meet journalists’ story objectives and deadlines.
- Providing regular reports of media relations activities and coverage.
- Leading and managing regional content marketing strategy, planning, and operation.
- Collaborating with various stakeholders at Rotary’s headquarters to develop and implement communications that are culturally relevant for Korea and the broader East Asia region while being aligned with Rotary’s goals and strategies.
- Developing strategies for and managing Rotary’s official social media and blog channels for Korean audiences, while evaluating performance and impact.
- Developing and curating engaging content for our official regional and global platforms, including Rotary’s website and magazines, in close collaboration with the Regional Content & Magazines Lead.
- Identifying influential Rotary members, partners, and influencers in the region and establishing relationships to develop content and opinion/editorial pieces.
- Advising content creators and channel owners at Rotary’s headquarters on globalizing communications in English while presenting data-driven insights and recommendations for enhancing Rotary’s communications in the region.
- Supporting campaigns, initiatives, and events at the regional level as directed by the Public Relations manager.
- Creating communications frameworks, best practices, and training resources that help clubs and members share their stories in ways that strengthen Rotary’s brand.
- Working with the managers to prepare and evaluate annual budget needs.
- Working with the managers to oversee and evaluate the work of agencies and hired vendors.
- Producing strong and engaging story-enhancing collateral materials for the media, including news releases, op-eds, by-lines, fact sheets, visual assets (broll/still photos).
