Job Description - Senior Design Engineer

Eaton\u2019s Power Components Division is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer. This is a hybrid position (3 days on-site, 2 days remote per week) based at our Moon Township, PA location. Relocation assistance will be provided to candidates currently residing within the US/PR. \n\nThe expected annual salary range for this role is $86000 - $126000 a year. \n\nPlease note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. \n\n## What you\u2019ll do:\n\nThis role is responsible for product design engineering for Eaton\u2019s Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) product line. The engineer ensures product functionality, performance margin, and design robustness across new and existing products. Responsibilities span the full product lifecycle\u2014from concept and validation through production support\u2014while collaborating with global cross\u2011functional teams.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\n * Design, develop, validate, and document molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) products in compliance with product requirements, applicable industry standards, and regulatory certifications\n * Serve as the design owner for assigned MCCB product lines, maintaining design margin and engineering integrity from concept through end of life\n * Support new product development initiatives and drive performance, quality, reliability, and cost improvements for existing products\n * Validate design concepts using engineering analysis, modeling, simulation, and laboratory testing to confirm functionality, robustness, and required performance margins\n * Support product launch and manufacturing readiness, including production line support and resolution of early-life issues\n * Participate in third-party certification testing; investigate failures or nonconformances and support design updates and revalidation as required\n * Identify and resolve design, quality, yield, and application issues using structured problem-solving methodologies\n * Support cost reduction initiatives (VA/VE), minor design changes, and supplier or component updates, including required validation activities\n * Define verification methods, control plans, and critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics for assigned designs\n * Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and project teams; provide technical input and clear status updates to engineers and stakeholders\n\n\n\n## Qualifications:\n\nRequired (Basic) Qualifications:\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution\n * Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical or electromechanical component / product design\n * Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. This means that Eaton will not support any CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT plans, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, I-485 job portability, etc. \n \n\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution\n * Exposure to the development, manufacturing, or testing of industrial or electromechanical products\n * Familiarity with product safety standards or regulatory requirements (UL, IEC, CSA, or similar)\n * Working knowledge of quality or statistical tools (e.g., basic Six Sigma concepts, SPC, FMEA)\n * Experience using engineering tools such as Pro/Engineer Creo (or similar CAD), Excel, and basic analysis or simulation tools\n * Experience working with cross functional or global engineering and manufacturing teams\n\n\n\n## Skills:\n\n * Strong foundation in mechanical and electromechanical design, including basic electrical concepts\n * Ability to translate design requirements into robust, manufacturable component and subsystem designs\n * Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles, including identification of CTQs, variation reduction, and data driven design decisions\n * Risk management and structured problem solving skills, including use of tools such as FMEA/DFMEA to identify, prioritize, and mitigate design, quality, and reliability risks\n * Understanding of design for manufacturability, quality, reliability, and cost\n * Hands on laboratory and testing experience, with a strong commitment to safe work practices\n * Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to support debugging and failure investigations\n * Effective time management and ability to balance multiple priorities with guidance\n * Clear written and verbal communication skills; effective collaborator within cross functional teams\n * Adaptability, curiosity, and initiative in a continuous improvement engineering environment\n * Familiarity with circuit breaker products and applicable standards (or demonstrated ability to learn quickly)\n * Bilingual English/Spanish a plus; ability to travel approximately 10%, including international travel\n\n\n\nAll positions may require participation in video and in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.
