Senior Development Project Manager

Job Description - Senior Development Project Manager

A growing commercial real estate development company is seeking an experienced Senior Development Project Manager to support projects throughout Florida.

This is an owner/developer-side role responsible for advancing projects from early feasibility and underwriting through design, entitlements, permitting, and construction readiness. The Senior Development Project Managerwill work closely with internal development and construction teams while coordinating civil engineers, architects, municipalities, tenants, contractors, and other external consultants.

The ideal candidate brings a strong technical understanding of civil/site development and land development, combined with the project management skills needed to move complex commercial projects forward.

The company's portfolio includes single-tenant developments, grocery-anchored shopping centers, multi-tenant retail, mixed-use developments, healthcare-related projects, and other large-scale commercial developments.

This opportunity is especially well suited for someone who began their career in civil engineering, land development, or site design and has since moved into a broader project management role overseeing consultants, schedules, budgets, permitting, and overall project execution.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage commercial real estate development projects from early feasibility and due diligence through design, entitlements, permitting, and construction readiness.

  • Support project underwriting by helping develop and validate site-development assumptions, preliminary budgets, schedules, infrastructure requirements, and other critical project information.

  • Evaluate potential development sites to identify issues related to access, utilities, grading, drainage, site layout, zoning, permitting, and infrastructure.

  • Translate approved business plans into executable development strategies and drive projects toward permit-ready construction documents.

  • Manage and coordinate civil engineers, architects, surveyors, environmental consultants, geotechnical consultants, landscape architects, utility providers, attorneys, and other project partners.

  • Review civil, architectural, and site plans to identify potential cost, schedule, constructability, or permitting concerns.

  • Lead entitlement and permitting efforts while coordinating with municipalities and regulatory agencies.

  • Develop and maintain project schedules and ensure consultants and internal stakeholders meet key milestones.

  • Coordinate tenant requirements, site plans, delivery obligations, and other project-specific commitments.

  • Partner closely with construction teams as projects transition from development and permitting into active construction.

  • Provide ongoing budget input and identify conditions that could materially affect project cost or financial feasibility.

  • Proactively identify project risks, develop solutions, and escalate critical issues when appropriate.

  • Maintain clear communication among internal stakeholders, consultants, municipalities, tenants, contractors, and other project partners.

  • Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while maintaining accountability for schedules, deliverables, and critical dates.

  • Represent the organization professionally when working with consultants, municipalities, tenants, contractors, and community stakeholders.

Minimum / Preferred Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Land Development, Architecture, Real Estate Development, or a related field.

  • Professional experience within civil engineering, land development, site development, commercial real estate development, or a closely related discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, consultants, schedules, and deliverables rather than working solely in a technical design capacity.

  • Strong working knowledge of civil/site-development fundamentals, including grading, drainage, utilities, access, site layout, infrastructure, and permitting.

  • Experience coordinating civil engineers, architects, municipalities, utility providers, and other third-party consultants.

  • Experience supporting projects through due diligence, design development, entitlement, permitting, and construction-document preparation.

  • Ability to review and understand civil plans, site plans, surveys, engineering documents, and other technical project information.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to independently drive projects forward.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within a geographically dispersed team.

  • Ability to travel to project sites, municipalities, consultant meetings, and other locations as needed.

Preferred Requirements

  • Career background beginning in civil engineering or land-development design, followed by advancement into project or program management.

  • Experience working for a civil engineering or land-development consulting firm while managing clients, project teams, schedules, and consultant deliverables.

  • Experience working on the owner/developer side of commercial real estate.

  • Experience with retail, grocery-anchored shopping centers, multi-tenant developments, mixed-use projects, healthcare, restaurants, or other high-volume commercial development programs.

  • Experience supporting project underwriting and providing early-stage budget, schedule, infrastructure, and site-feasibility input.

  • Experience navigating zoning, entitlements, permitting, and municipal approval processes in Florida.

  • Experience managing complex developments involving multiple parcels, tenants, contractors, infrastructure scopes, or simultaneous development components.

  • Established familiarity with the Florida development environment and regional consultants, municipalities, contractors, or other development partners.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is beneficial but not required.

  • Experience operating in an entrepreneurial environment where individuals are expected to solve problems, make decisions, and take ownership of project outcomes.
