Senior Geologist (Eagle Ford)

Job Description - Senior Geologist (Eagle Ford)

Highlights

  • Senior-level geoscience role providing technical leadership across operated oil and gas assets.
  • Key opportunity to influence subsurface strategy, horizontal well planning, asset optimization, and long-term field performance.
  • Highly collaborative role partnering with engineering, operations, and business leadership on critical asset decisions.

Our Client

Our client is a privately held organization investing in and operating real assets. The team combines deep technical expertise with a highly analytical approach to evaluating opportunities and maximizing asset performance. This role offers significant visibility and the opportunity to influence technical and investment decisions across the organization.

The Role

The Senior Geologist will serve as a key technical resource responsible for subsurface interpretation, well planning, and optimization of operated assets. This individual will integrate complex geologic, engineering, drilling, and production data to guide asset strategy, identify opportunities, mitigate risk, and improve field performance.

  • Lead subsurface interpretation and mapping to guide asset strategy, landing-zone selection, well placement, and identification of geologic risks and opportunities.
  • Integrate operated and offset-well data, geosteering results, logs, seismic information, and other subsurface datasets to develop comprehensive technical interpretations.
  • Partner with reservoir engineering, drilling, completions, geophysics, and operations teams to establish well placement, spacing, sequencing, and execution strategies.
  • Provide technical direction for pre-drill planning and geosteering activities, evaluate drilling results, and incorporate learnings into future asset decisions.
  • Integrate petrophysical, geomechanical, completion, and production information to evaluate reservoir performance and optimize asset strategy.
  • Identify and evaluate infill, re-entry, refrac, and other opportunities to maximize asset value and long-term performance.
  • Present technical interpretations, risk assessments, and recommendations to senior leadership and other key decision-makers while supporting asset planning and reserves processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, Earth Science, or a related discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of oil and gas geology experience with significant responsibility for unconventional shale assets and horizontal drilling programs.
  • Direct Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk experience strongly preferred, with deep knowledge of South Texas geology, horizontal well planning, subsurface interpretation, and asset optimization.
  • Advanced experience with geologic interpretation, well planning, geosteering, reservoir characterization, and integration of drilling, completion, and production data.
