Location: This individual could work in Costa Mesa, Fresno, Oakland, Sacramento, or San Diego attached to the LA Basin organization. Following an initial integration period and demonstration of effectively meeting responsibilities from a remote location, up to 90% remote work is possible with this position.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Will work primarily in an office with occasional requirements to work in the field on water resources and environmental projects (up to 90% remote work is possible with this position following an initial integration period and demonstration of effectively meeting responsibilities from a remote location)
  • Analyze and interpret geologic, hydrogeologic, and geochemical data
  • Develop conceptual hydrogeologic models and water balances
  • Develop, calibrate, and apply numerical models of groundwater flow and solute transport using MODFLOW and MT3D and standard graphical user interfaces (Groundwater Vistas preferred)
  • Manage and visualize data using Microsoft Access and ESRI ArcGIS software or similar applications
  • Plan, design, and implement aquifer tests and other hydraulic tests
  • Analyze and interpret aquifer test data using AQTESOLV and other methods
  • Mentor, supervise, and train junior staff in field methods, technical analyses, numerical modeling, and reporting
  • Manage projects and supervise staff setting up and executing projects including permitting; coordinating with staff, laboratories, and subcontractors; and obtaining necessary equipment
  • Ensure projects are performed safely
  • Prepare proposals and technical reports, including technical writing and review of report text, tables, and figures prepared by others
  • Will travel to project sites and meetings locally and out of the area as necessary.  Approximately 10% overnight travel





Qualifications





Requirements:

  • BS in Geology, Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
  • 10 + years of work experience in hydrogeology with a focus on modeling
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, technical writing, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally and out of the area as necessary.  Approximately 10% overnight travel
  • Familiarity with development and application of numerical groundwater models using the MODFLOW family of codes (NWT, USG, etc.) and MT3D with Groundwater Vistas and other pre-and-post-processing software
  • Familiarity with analysis and interpretation of aquifer test data using AQTESOLV and other methods
  • Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy

Preferred:

  • MS or PhD with coursework in hydrogeology, hydrology, groundwater modeling,
  • Professional Geologist/ Certified Hydrogeologist or PE in California
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (R, Python, VBA) to support pre-and-post-processing or applied to analytical model,
  • Familiarity with automated parameter optimization for model calibration using PEST or other similar tools
  • Familiarity with modeling of unsaturated flow using Hydrus, VS2D, or other software
  • Familiarity with modeling of variable density flow using SEAWAT or other software a plus
  • Familiarity with databases and GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, Grass, etc.) to manage and visualize data
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (if not, Wood will provide)

Physical Demands:

  • Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Working in a standing position for the majority of the field workday
  • Ability to drive a pick-up truck
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function
  • Must complete fit for duty employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required
  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required
