SUMMARY & PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Senior Loan Processor manages residential mortgage loans from application through
closing, ensuring files are processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with investor,
regulatory, and company requirements. This role also supports less experienced processors
and collaborates with Loan Originators, Underwriters, Closers, and third-party vendors to
ensure timely loan approvals and closings.
PRIMARY POSITION-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtain and review missing documentation, identify discrepancies, and coordinate
corrections to ensure complete and compliant loan files.
Initiate and monitor the title, appraisal, flood certification, and other third-party vendor
processes, following up to ensure timely completion.
Process complex loan files while ensuring compliance with investor, agency, company,
and regulatory requirements.
Review loan documentation for accuracy, completeness, and eligibility prior to
underwriting submission and closing.
Coordinate with Loan Originators, Underwriters, Closers, borrowers, and third-party
vendors to facilitate a smooth loan process and resolve issues proactively.
Anticipate and identify potential processing or underwriting issues and recommend
solutions to minimize delays.
Assist with training, mentoring, and providing guidance to new or less experienced Loan
Processors as needed.
Serve as a resource for processing questions, workflow best practices, and company
procedures.
Perform quality control reviews on loan files to ensure accuracy and adherence to
company standards.
Maintain accurate loan status updates and communicate proactively with all parties
throughout the loan process.
Perform clerical and administrative functions related to mortgage loan processing.
Stay current on company policies, mortgage regulations, investor guidelines, federal and
state laws, and industry best practices, and apply that knowledge to daily
responsibilities.
Participate in departmental initiatives to improve processing efficiency, workflow, and
customer service.
Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Thorough understanding of mortgage processing, underwriting documentation, and
regulatory requirements.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to prioritize multiple loans while meeting deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
An Associate’s Degree or certification in finance, mathematics, accounting, or another
equivalent field of study (Associates degree can be substituted for more than two (2)
years of loan processing experience);
Previous experience with Encompass, a plus.
