Job Overview
A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Senior MRI Technologist to provide both advanced clinical expertise and operational leadership within its MRI department.
This role combines hands-on MRI imaging with responsibility for daily workflow, staff scheduling, training, quality assurance, equipment oversight, accreditation readiness, and departmental operations. The Senior MRI Technologist will serve as a key resource for MRI staff while helping maintain exceptional standards for patient safety, image quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of MRI experience, strong technical expertise, and previous experience serving as a Lead or Senior MRI Technologist.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and oversee daily MRI department operations and workflow
Manage staff assignments, schedules, timekeeping, and PTO requests
Serve as a subject-matter expert and clinical resource for MRI staff
Train, educate, onboard, and evaluate new and existing MRI Technologists
Perform and oversee routine and advanced MRI examinations
Position and instruct patients appropriately for MRI procedures
Select appropriate imaging techniques and protocols based on the examination
Calibrate and operate MRI equipment and ensure diagnostic-quality imaging
Troubleshoot challenging examinations and equipment-related issues
Maintain strong knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology
Manage departmental supplies and ensure appropriate inventory levels
Monitor PACS and Epic worklists for accuracy and resolve examination discrepancies
Perform and document MRI equipment quality assurance and quality-control activities
Maintain compliance with ACR, Department of Health, Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards
Coordinate preventive maintenance and equipment service with vendors
Prepare documentation and images for ACR accreditation and reaccreditation
Participate in Joint Commission surveys, preparation activities, and department rounding
Assist with development and implementation of MRI policies, procedures, and clinical protocols
Identify workflow and operational improvements that enhance department efficiency
Support revenue-cycle initiatives and accurate examination documentation
Collaborate with physicians, radiologists, nursing staff, and other hospital departments
Respond to patient concerns and support excellent customer service
Promote staff productivity, accountability, and professional development
Maintain MRI safety standards throughout all designated MRI zones
Perform other related responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Graduate of an accredited radiography school or hospital-based imaging program
Minimum of five years of experience as an MRI Technologist or Lead MRI Technologist
Current ARRT registration
Current ARRT certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, ARRT(MR)
Current New York State Radiologic Technologist license
Strong knowledge of MRI safety, procedures, and imaging protocols
Deep understanding of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology
Experience troubleshooting MRI equipment and difficult imaging examinations
Experience training and evaluating MRI Technologists
Ability to coordinate staff workflow and daily department operations
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to navigate all MRI safety zones and assist patients as needed
Ability to work collaboratively with radiologists and multidisciplinary clinical teams
Preferred
Previous Lead, Senior, or supervisory MRI Technologist experience
Magnetic Resonance Safety Officer certification through the American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety
Experience with ACR MRI accreditation
Experience preparing for Joint Commission or Department of Health surveys
Experience managing MRI staffing, schedules, and timekeeping
Experience with Epic and PACS workflow management
Experience developing MRI protocols, policies, or department procedures
Strong background in MRI quality assurance and quality control
