About the Role 

As a Senior Product Manager, Electrical & Firmware, you will be responsible for ensuring that the ARC system delivers optimal charging to a variety of enterprise mobile devices, including Zebra, Honeywell, Samsung, Apple and more. 

You will be the go-to person for assisting with critical decisions between the development team and our electrical engineering team as we create custom hardware. You will define the requirements, specifications, and processes for how our custom charging boards communicate with the kiosk's internal computer (Host PC);  covering device detection, power delivery reporting, firmware update processes, and middleware behavior. You will define this work at a product and requirements level; day-to-day development, coding, and detailed QA execution remain with the application development and QA teams.

Hardware at ChargeItSpot, such as custom PCBs, is inextricably tied to software, so

your role will span both disciplines. You will serve as an advocate for electrical and firmware design decisions across the company. Research, testing, documentation, requirements-writing, and new product design are all part of this role.

This is a senior, cross-functional position: you should be comfortable understanding low-level hardware/software interface concepts deeply enough to write clear specifications and evaluate tradeoffs, without needing to write the code or firmware yourself.

This position reports to the Director of Product Management, Electrical Engineering. As a member of the Product Strategy team, you need to be self-motivated, highly organized, independent, and ready to tackle new tasks quickly, creatively, and efficiently. 

Location 

We are headquartered in Philadelphia, PA.  In order to successfully manage both hardware and software, this role is expected to be full time in the office.  Some remote work is possible depending on projects.  You must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities 

• Understand our charging system and device compatibility.
• Produce investigation reports on hardware tested in the lab and in the field. 
• Troubleshoot and test devices and custom hardware.
• Support the research and implementation of electronic, hardware, and software features.
• Create requirement documents for custom hardware.
• Manage quick-turn requests across sales, client success, and operations.
• Support research and device decisions for use with ARC.
• Create requirements and specifications for the interface between the host PC and custom boards, typically realized as middleware and an API used by the kiosk's software, partnering with development teams who build to those specs.
• Create software requirements and specifications for kiosk-wide power management, including power delivered to individual connected devices.
• Define how board configuration is sent to and applied on kiosks.
• Build testing plans and coordinate with QA to execute testing for the kiosk software's interaction with hardware, as well as for firmware.
• Review test results from QA to evaluate the correctness of hardware, middleware, and firmware.
• Contribute to the ongoing management of our Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio.

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a Related Field
• 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, hardware product management,  embedded systems, firmware, or comparable experience.
• Familiar with PCB board design (preferably in Altium)
• Deep understanding of schematics, PCB board layout, and datasheets.
• Experience with breadboarding and board fabrication, including skills such as soldering
• Experience with test equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, USB analyzers)
• Familiarity with power management circuitry
• Experience testing and troubleshooting hardware.
• Strong documentation skills
• A data-driven and strategic mindset with technical acumen.
• Understanding of embedded systems concepts (device drivers, low-level programming concepts, RTOS task scheduling, interrupt handling, memory/resource constraints; e.g. FreeRTOS or similar) and how low-level hardware/firmware states translate into higher-level software abstractions (e.g. middleware, APIs, UI-facing status) 
• Write clear specifications and evaluate engineering tradeoffs with firmware, software, and hardware engineers
• Experience defining firmware or middleware update processes for fielded hardware (e.g. staged rollout, availability constraints, rollback planning).
• A strong bias for action, and a "get it done" attitude. You are never satisfied with the status quo.
• You are a strong communicator, attentive listener, and compelling explainer with the ability to focus on a problem, ask the right questions, and gain expertise quickly.
• Self-motivated and organized; you must be able to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with engineering design firms, large production builds, and product launches.
• Experience with USB A and C charging, DC charging, and boardhouse fabrication.
• Knowledge of USB protocol and analyzers.
• Experience designing and testing power management circuitry
• Experience working at the intersection of hardware and software is a big plus.
• Experience working at a startup is a plus.
