What’s the Job?
The Senior Quality Technician is responsible for performing and supporting day-to-day quality inspection and quality-control activities for industrial fan and blower manufacturing. This position reports directly to the Quality & Safety Manager and works closely with Production, Engineering, Design, Drafting, Purchasing, Manufacturing Planning and Shipping to ensure products meet engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements and established quality standards.
Position Requirements
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- 3–5+ years of manufacturing quality, inspection or related experience preferred.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, tolerances and weld symbols.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, gauges and other inspection tools.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing quality systems and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
- Experience with nonconformance reporting, corrective actions and root-cause analysis.
- Strong computer, documentation, organization and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize inspection activities and make sound quality decisions within established requirements.
- Welding inspection, coating inspection, calibration/metrology, Lean/Six Sigma or ISO 9001:2015 internal auditor experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
This position requires regular presence on the production floor. Noise levels may range from moderate to high. Work occurs primarily indoors, with temperatures varying seasonally. The role may require standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 30 lbs during inspections or equipment setup.
Job Duties & Skills

- Serve as the primary technical resource for day-to-day inspection and product quality questions.
- Independently prioritize and coordinate inspection activities based on production and shipment requirements.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, tolerances, weld symbols and customer-specific quality requirements.
- Inspect fabricated components, weldments, rotating assemblies and completed fan assemblies for dimensional and workmanship requirements.
- Review balance, vibration, shaft alignment and other applicable test results for compliance with established acceptance criteria.
- Support material traceability, including review of MTRs, certifications, PMI testing and customer-required quality documentation.
- Review and support Inspection and Test Plans and customer-specific inspection requirements.
- Assist with internal, customer and ISO 9001 audits including preparation of supporting documentation and corrective-action follow-up.
- Evaluate recurring nonconformances, defects, rework and warranty issues to identify opportunities for corrective action and process improvement.
- Provide technical input regarding the disposition of nonconforming material and escalate significant quality concerns to the Quality & Safety Manager.
- Support supplier quality issues by documenting defects, reviewing inspection results and communicating findings to Purchasing and the Quality & Safety Manager.
- Develop or improve inspection methods, checklists, forms, work instructions and inspection criteria.
- Verify that inspection and measurement equipment is appropriate for the required measurement and within calibration.
- Support welding quality activities including visual weld inspection and verification of applicable welding documentation when qualified.
- Maintain organized and accurate quality documentation to support product traceability, customer requirements and ISO 9001 compliance.
- Act as a quality resource to Production and Engineering when resolving manufacturing or product-conformance issues.
- Exercise independent judgment to stop, hold or escalate product when requirements are not met within established company procedures.
