Senior VDC Engineer

The PENTA Building Group is searching for a Senior VDC Engineer to join our team in Los Angeles County and Orange County!

A PENTA Senior VDC Engineer will assist with the planning, organization, and management of the day-to-day VDC operations, as well as any other responsibilities that the project team or VDC team may need.
 
 PENTA Building Group is looking for a Sr. VDC Engineer to own the technical execution of VDC deliverables on assigned projects.  This role produces BIM coordination, visualization, reality capture, and phasing/sequence work that meets PENTA's quality standard and supports field operations across all project phases.  The Sr. VDC Engineer works alongside the Sr. VDC Manager or VDC Manager on assigned projects, serves as a technical resource for VDC Engineers and interns, and brings the construction knowledge to make their work field-relevant.  The right candidate is precise, proactive, and ready to grow their construction expertise alongside their technical skills.
 

A PENTA VDC Manager is also responsible for:

Pursuit

• Support VDC narrative writing, project management approach and logistics concepts for project pursuit.
• Assist in preparing VDC content for interview presentations under the direction of the Sr VDC Manager. 
• Build and maintain relationships with design partners, and trade contractors.

Preconstruction

• Assist in developing the VDC Management Plan for assigned projects.
• Support design review and constructability analysis sessions using design drawings and project models.
• Participate in design coordination meetings and support model management during the design phase.
• Assist with model coordination setup including subcontractor model requirements.

Construction

• Execute VDC deliverables that meet PENTA’s quality standard on assigned projects across all active workflows including visualization, model coordination, design review, reality capture and field technology.
• Prepare for and participate in model coordination meetings.  Track and follow up on open issues.
• Conduct reality capture operations using Leica RTC 360 and DroneDeploy; process and deliver outputs per PENTA standards
• Provide technical guidance and task oversight to VDC Engineers and interns on shared project work
• Support RFI resolution using model and coordination data.
• Communicate proactively with the VDC Manager on project status, emerging issues, and anything that could affect delivery quality or timeline.

Closeout

• Assist in preparing as-built model documentation on assigned projects per contract requirements and PENTA standards.
• Support final reality capture for record documentation and confirm all outputs meet deliverables requirements before handover.
• Manage the handover of VDC deliverables to the owner or facilities team.
• Assist in coordinating a VDC lesson learned review at project closeout and contribute findings to department-wide standards improvement.

VDC Initiatives

• Contribute to VDC learning and development initiatives across PENTA including supporting training content development and delivering sessions in areas of expertise.
• Identifying opportunities to apply innovative technology solutions and improve VDC workflows on assigned projects.
• Support VDC marketing and branding efforts by contributing to pursuit content, project narratives, and client-facing materials.
• Contribute to process improvement through lessons learned and feedback on VDC workflows and standards.

We trust that you have:

• Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field
• 3-5 years of experience in VDC, BIM, or a related construction technology role
• Demonstrated ability to produce VDC deliverables independently at a professional quality standard
• Solid understanding of construction sequencing, field operations, and project delivery methods
• Strong organizational and communication skills this includes written and verbal

We'd like for you to have:

• Experience with Revit, Navisworks, or ACC Model Coordination
• Experience with reality capture tools — Leica RTC 360, DroneDeploy, or similar
• Experience with Lumion, TwinMotion, or Synchro 4D
• Experience with Autodesk Build or similar construction management platform
• OSHA 10 or 30 Certification
• Technically precise and detail-oriented in production work
• Proactive flagging issues before they affect project timelines or deliverable quality
• Clear and confident in project-level conversations with trade partners, project managers, and design teams
• Committed to building construction knowledge alongside technical skills
• Effective at directing and reviewing the work of VDC Engineers and interns
• Adaptable across multiple active projects with shifting priorities
• Exempt position; does not qualify for overtime
• Local travel to jobsites required; occasional overnight travel to regional locations
• Must be able to work in active construction environments when conducting site visits or reality capture operations
• Regularly required, in an 8-hour day, to sit for 5-8 hours; stand/walk/move around for 1-4 hours.
• Lifting 15 pounds occasionally with occasional sitting and frequent standing/walking.
• Able to access and navigate offices and jobsites.
• Salary Range DOE $85,000 - $95,000

The PENTA Building Group maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs, and market demands. The pay range may differ in other locations. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors and is in good faith and/or offer for this position.
