Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Chief Technical Officer and Chief Client Officer and serving as a key member of the Global Leadership Team, the Senior Vice President, Business Development is responsible for leading the global commercial strategy and driving top line revenue growth for WuXi Biologics. This executive will provide visionary leadership for the company's Business Development organization, accelerating strategic partnerships with leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies while expanding WuXi Biologics' position as a premier global Contract Research, Development and Manufacturing Organization (CRDMO).
The Senior Vice President will lead a high-performing commercial organization responsible for generating new business opportunities, expanding existing strategic partnerships, and delivering long-term growth across WuXi Biologics' integrated biologics discovery, development, and manufacturing platform. This leader will work closely with executive leadership, scientific teams, manufacturing operations, and global functional leaders to ensure a seamless customer experience while advancing the company's mission of enabling partners to bring innovative biologic therapies to patients worldwide.
Job Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute WuXi Biologics' global commercial strategy to achieve top line revenue growth, and long-term growth objectives.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Global Leadership Team on commercial strategy, market trends, competitive positioning, and business expansion opportunities.
- Identify emerging market opportunities and establish strategic initiatives that strengthen WuXi Biologics' global leadership in biologics development and manufacturing.
- Work closely with CMC technical colleagues in managing new and existing accounts to drive business revenue
- Lead annual strategic planning, forecasting, and commercial performance reviews
Business Development & Revenue Growth
- Drive significant new business growth through strategic partnerships with global biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
- Expand WuXi Biologics' market presence across biologics discovery, process development, analytical development, clinical manufacturing, commercial manufacturing, and integrated CRDMO solutions.
- Develop executive-level relationships with C-suite leaders and key decision-makers within target client organizations.
- Serve as Executive Sponsor for the company's most strategic global accounts.
Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global Business Development organization.
- Work with the existing business development team to move into existing markets, and expand our client base and new molecules, across all modalities
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
- Build leadership capability and succession plans across the commercial organization.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with all Business units including CMC, Global Manufacturing, Technical Operations, Program Management, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, and Marketing to ensure exceptional client execution.
- Lead complex commercial negotiations, pricing strategies, and contract discussions while balancing profitability and long-term client relationships.
- Champion collaboration across global regions to deliver integrated solutions for clients.
Industry Leadership
- Represent WuXi Biologics at global industry conferences, executive forums, and customer meetings.
- Serve as a recognized industry thought leader in biologics development, manufacturing, and outsourcing.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive intelligence to shape future commercial strategy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business, or a related discipline required; MBA, MS, or PhD strongly preferred.
- 20+ years of progressive leadership experience within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, CRDMO, CDMO, or CRO industries.
- Significant experience in signing commercial manufacturing contracts for Biologics
- Strong industry network, especially across large pharma accounts
- Minimum of 10 years leading global commercial or business development organizations with direct responsibility for significant revenue growth.
- Proven success developing strategic partnerships with leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
- Deep understanding of biologics development, CMC, process development, GMP manufacturing, technology transfer, commercialization, and global outsourcing models.
- Demonstrated experience leading large, geographically dispersed commercial organizations.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing forecasts, revenue planning, and business performance metrics.
- Exceptional executive presence, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Proven ability to influence senior executives, build high-performing teams, and drive transformational growth.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as business needs require.
