Service & Maintenance Technician – HVAC and Water Heating Eco Performance Builders | Walnut Creek, CA | Full-Time
About Us Eco Performance Builders has spent 16 years helping Bay Area homeowners and affordable housing providers make their homes more comfortable, efficient, and healthy. We specialize in whole-home energy retrofits: heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, insulation, air sealing, ductwork, and electrification. We've grown entirely by referral, and we're known for doing the job right the first time.
We're growing our service department and need a skilled technician who can work confidently on both modern inverter heat pump systems and existing heating equipment, including gas furnaces, floor furnaces, and wall furnaces.
What You'll Do
Diagnose, repair, and maintain inverter heat pump systems, ducted and ductless/mini-splits
Perform manufacturer warranty service on heat pumps and heat pump water heaters, including: diagnosis, parts replacement, and warranty documentation
Install, service, and troubleshoot issues with heat pump water heaters
Service and repair gas forced-air furnaces, floor furnaces, and wall furnaces
Troubleshoot and repair tank and tankless water heaters (gas and electric)
Perform combustion safety testing, including CO, draft, and gas-leak checks, and identify hazards
Perform seasonal maintenance and system tune-ups
Commission and verify system performance using our digital tools
Document work clearly with photos, notes, and readings
Explain findings and options to homeowners in plain language
Flag opportunities for efficiency upgrades or electrification when appropriate
Keep your service vehicle stocked, organized, and maintained
What We're Looking For
3+ years of residential HVAC service experience
Experience diagnosing inverter/variable-speed heat pumps, including error codes, sensors, inverter boards, and communication issues
Hands-on experience with gas furnaces, including wall and floor furnaces
Experience with heat pump water heaters is a strong plus
Solid electrical troubleshooting skills: controls, boards, motors, and capacitors
EPA 608 certification (Universal preferred)
Valid California driver's license and clean driving record
Professional, respectful, and comfortable working in occupied homes with a wide range of customers
Self-motivated and organized, able to manage your own schedule
Nice to Have
Manufacturer training or certifications (Mitsubishi, Daikin, Fujitsu, Carrier, etc.)
Experience handling manufacturer warranty claims
BPI, combustion safety, or NATE certifications
Experience with utility, CCA, or energy efficiency programs
Bilingual (Spanish or other languages)
