Job Description - Shipping and Receiving Inventory Control Specialist

Position: Shipping and Receiving Inventory Control Specialist


Pay Range: $19 - $23 /hour (based on experience)


Hours: 8 am - 5 pm (On-site)


Core Responsibilities


 


Receiving & Shipping



  • Unload incoming deliveries and verify contents against purchase orders and packing slips.

  • Inspect incoming and outgoing materials for damage or discrepancies and report them to management.

  • Prepare and process outgoing shipments, including picking, packing, labeling, and generating shipping documents.

  • Coordinate, schedule and document with external freight carriers and internal departments (e.g., customer service, sales and purchasing).

  • Scans, emails and uploads documents to shared files using Excel and Microsoft Teams

  • Perform incoming inspections of packaging materials and warehouse supplies using established inspection checklists and approved product specifications.

  • Verify received materials match purchase orders, packing slips, product specifications, quantities, labels, and part numbers before accepting them into inventory.

  • Identify damaged, incorrect, or non-conforming materials and notify Purchasing or Management.

  • Complete and maintain incoming inspection records and receiving documentation.

  • Ensure required supplier documentation (Certificates of Compliance, inspection reports, or other required documentation when applicable) is received before materials are accepted into inventory.

  • Inspect inbound shipments before signing carrier paperwork. Refuse or document shipments with visible damage, shortages, or signs of mishandling. 

  • Experience: 2–5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, inventory control, or material inspection. Experience performing incoming inspections using inspection checklists and written quality standards is preferred. 

  • Technical Skills: Experience using ERP/WMS systems, Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook and Teams), barcode scanners, and the ability to follow written work instructions, product specifications, and incoming inspection checklists.

  • Quality Responsibilities: Inspect incoming materials against approved specifications, complete inspection documentation accurately, identify defects or shortages, and communicate issues to Purchasing or Management. 

  • Licenses: Valid Texas Class C Driver License with an acceptable driving record is required. Ability to operate company vehicles for local pickups and deliveries when required.

  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience inspecting corrugated boxes, tape, stretch film, shrink sleeves, labels, and flexible packaging. Familiarity with FIFO inventory practices is preferred.


 


Inventory Control



  • Accurately record inbound receipts of product using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or warehouse management system software.

  • Perform routine cycle counts and physical inventory audits to maintain data accuracy.

  • Organize and stock materials in designated warehouse locations to allow for easy retrieval.

  • Monitor inventory levels, report shortages, and assist with replenishment orders.


Key Qualifications & Skills



  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.

  • Experience: 1–3 years of previous experience in warehousing, logistics, or inventory control.

  • Technical Skills: Experience in warehouse management systems (WMS), Microsoft Office, and barcode scanning equipment.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects and stand/walk for extended periods.

  • Soft Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate effectively with customer service, purchasing, sales and team members.

  • Equipment Operation: Valid certification to operate warehouse equipment like forklifts, reach lifts, cherry pickers and pallet jacks.


Typical Work Environment


This role is primarily on-site in a warehouse facility. The work environment can be fast-paced and occasionally physically demanding, requiring strict adherence to safety policies.
