Shipping & Receiving Supervisor

Position Summary

The Second Shift Shipping and Receiving Supervisor directs the shift’s warehouse, shipping, and receiving activities to ensure products and materials are handled accurately, safely, and on time. This role leads employees on the production floor and in storage and dock areas, coordinates with Production, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and transportation partners, and maintains food safety and inventory controls in a USDA regulated food manufacturing environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Supervise, train, assign, and coach shipping and receiving employees; establish daily priorities and provide clear shift handoffs.
• Coordinate inbound receipts, outbound orders, trailer loading and unloading, and carrier arrivals to meet production and shipping schedules.
• Verify product identity, lot information, quantities, condition, labeling, and shipping documents; investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Maintain accurate inventory transactions and records in the company’s systems, including receipts, transfers, picks, shipments, and adjustments within assigned authority.
• Ensure proper product rotation, traceability, temperature control, storage practices, and segregation of held or nonconforming product.
• Follow applicable USDA, food safety, sanitation, and company requirements; promptly report product integrity concerns to Quality Assurance and follow hold and release instructions.
• Monitor safe forklift and material handling practices, trailer condition, dock safety, housekeeping, and equipment issues; report incidents and hazards immediately.
• Track shift performance, staffing, attendance, and workflow; address performance concerns consistently and partner with HR when needed.
• Communicate shortages, delays, equipment problems, and order changes to relevant departments and leadership; document work and outstanding issues for the next shift.
• Support cycle counts, inventory investigations, process improvements, and other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Two to five years of shipping, receiving, warehouse, or logistics experience, including experience leading employees or coordinating shift work.
• Ability to supervise a second shift operation, prioritize competing deadlines, and communicate effectively with employees and other departments.
• Working knowledge of inventory accuracy, shipping and receiving documentation, and safe material handling practices.
• Ability to use warehouse or inventory software and standard computer applications.
• Ability to work the assigned second shift and additional hours as operational needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a food manufacturing facility, preferably one regulated by the USDA.
• Experience with refrigerated or frozen products, lot traceability, temperature controls, and food safety procedures.
• Forklift experience and prior supervisory experience.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work takes place in a manufacturing and warehouse setting, including refrigerated areas, loading docks, and areas with moving equipment. The position requires frequent walking and standing, use of required personal protective equipment, and the ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
