Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital    


The Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1,134-bed facility with an extensive outpatient and specialty care network and is the largest hospital in the Mount Sinai Health Care System. It offers comprehensive social work services and programming to meet the myriad needs of the diverse populations we serve. We believe that total patient care must emphasize the physical, emotional, and social needs of each patient and their care partners. Social Workers collaborate within interprofessional teams to serve patients and the larger community from both a micro and macro level including both direct care and prevention. Founded in 1907, the Department of Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the oldest hospital social work departments in the nation with over 450 licensed social workers employed across more than 65 different program/service areas. Employment in our department provides a pathway to LCSW licensure as well as access to a broad range of continuing education, professional development and extra-curricular opportunities.

                                                                                                                                             

The social worker in this position is responsible for providing psychosocial services with an emphasis on complex discharge planning for patients on 9 East. The majority of 9 East patients are on the medicine and liver medicine services, while the remaining patients have gastrointestinal diseases and require surgical intervention (for Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, G.I. cancers and liver disease). The social worker will provide a range of psychosocial interventions, including support for patients and families coping with the impact of acute and chronic illness, linkage to substance abuse treatment resources, and end of life planning. The social worker will collaborate as a member of the interdisciplinary team, which requires strong interdisciplinary skills, as well as knowledge of crisis intervention and family systems.



Responsibilities

The social worker will be an integral part of hospital and unit-specific initiatives and have the opportunity to participate in program development and implementation. Coverage includes other medicine/surgery units. 

 



Qualifications
  • NYS LMSW/LCSW.

  • Excellent clinical, collaborative, and organizational skills.

  • Experience in providing psychosocial services to patients with acute and chronic illnesses.

  • Ability to develop and implement safe, appropriate, and timely discharge plans in a demanding, fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to the take lead in coordinating multiple disciplines for complex family meetings.

  • Knowledge of crisis, family, and systems theories.

  • Inpatient hospital experience preferred.

  • Internal candidates: Minimum one year in current position unless a Float in Medicine.

 

Compensation Statement

 

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $88,690.00 - $101,670.78 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
