Job Description - Special ED Teacher

Summary and relationship to the curriculum: This position provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities to achieve success in the educational setting per the system’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Communicates learning goals to students in a well -planned, organized manner using clear and precise language
  • Prepare and deliver instruction appropriate to the student population, including curriculum that addresses learning styles, abilities, interests, behavior problems and students with special needs
  • Create lesson plans describing daily learning experiences correlated with approved curriculum and State and District standards
  • Use available technology to enhance learning
  • Use district and state assessment data to improve instruction and place students in appropriate instructional and intervention programs
  • Facilitate instruction based on current research -based best practices
  • Effectively implement Individual Education Plans
  • Establish classroom routines to promote a positive environment conducive to effective instruction
  • Participate in team reviews concerning academic progress of low performing students
  • Document and resolve issues related to student behavior problems and attendance
  • Reflect on teaching and strive to improve professional competence
  • Assume legal responsibility for the supervision of students on school property or in attendance at school -sponsored activities
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Maintain accurate, complete, legible and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation
  • Participate in intervention process at sites
  • Participate in school -wide events, scheduled meetings and parent conferences
  • Participate in school and District initiatives
  • Assume individual responsibilities which may be assigned by the principal/supervisor and which may relate to committee work, student activities, student supervision or other planning and professional assignments
  • Meet any additional specific job requirements as indicated by the District or school site

Requirements

  • Certification in Special Education (EC -12)
  • Valid Special Education credential in Texas; ACP candidates seeking an internship are not eligible
  • Experience in policy (IDEA) and/or administration with Special Education
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office and Google products)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Customer focused approach
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast paced environment
  • Team player track record
