Colorado International Language Academy (CILA) is seeking an experienced, student-centered Special Education Teacher for the 2026–27 school year. This position provides specialized instruction, manages Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and works collaboratively with teachers, families, administrators, and related service providers to ensure students receive appropriate services and support.
CILA is a tuition-free public charter school offering language learning in Spanish, Mandarin, and German. The ideal candidate is highly organized, knowledgeable about special education laws and procedures, and committed to helping students succeed in an inclusive, culturally diverse school community.
Key Responsibilities
Provide specialized instruction aligned with students’ IEP goals and individual learning needs
Serve as case manager for students on an assigned caseload
Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain compliant IEPs
Schedule and facilitate annual, eligibility, reevaluation, amendment, manifestation determination, and other required meetings
Monitor student progress regularly and use data to guide instruction and services
Coordinate referrals, evaluations, and reevaluations with multidisciplinary teams
Ensure special education services, accommodations, and modifications are implemented as written
Maintain accurate, confidential student records and meet all required timelines
Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive instructional practices
Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress and services
Collaborate with school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, counselors, paraprofessionals, and other service providers
Participate in MTSS, problem-solving, and student support meetings
Support behavior intervention planning and crisis intervention when necessary
Provide guidance to staff regarding accommodations, modifications, and special education best practices
Assist with coordinating paraprofessional support and special education service schedules
Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, Colorado Department of Education regulations, and applicable authorizer requirements
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and assigned supervision duties
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by school administration
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Valid Colorado teaching license with an appropriate Special Education endorsement
Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, procedural safeguards, and Colorado special education requirements
Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs
Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines
Ability to build positive working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and service providers
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field
Three or more years of successful special education teaching or case-management experience
Experience facilitating eligibility, reevaluation, manifestation determination, and IEP meetings
Experience working within an MTSS framework
Experience supporting students with diverse academic, behavioral, and functional needs
Experience using electronic special education documentation and management systems
Current CPR, First Aid, or CPI certification, or willingness to obtain required certifications

Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to move throughout the school building and supervise students in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, and other school settings. The position may require standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, or crouching and regularly lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds with assistance may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be provided in accordance with applicable law.
