Information regarding multiple openings for Special Staff Assignments is enclosed with this notice. Members are advised to pay special attention to the position descriptions, eligibility requirements, appointment durations, interview process and start dates. All information and events described in this notice comply with the current IAFF Local 1762 Firefighters CBA, Article 36, and Battalion Chiefs CBA, Article 36. 


 


All Special Staff Assignment openings are on Day Shift. Battalion Chief and Fire Inspector positions require a three (3) year commitment. Engineer, Firefighter and Captain positions require a two (2) year commitment.  Interviews for all positions will be held October 6 to 8, 2026 at ESFR Headquarters. The official start date of all appointments is January 1, 2027. "Shadow time" will be offered at variable times, prior to official the start date.



Members interested in applying shall submit a letter of Interest to Human Resources by no later than 1700 hours on Monday, October 5th. Any letters received after the cutoff time shall not be considered for the position. Members may apply using HR BAMBOO, link provided.



OPEN SPECIAL STAFF ASSIGNMENTS




  • BC of Operations: Works at Station Headquarters and reports to the Deputy Chief of Operations. 


 



  • BC of Training: Works at the South King County Fire Training Consortium and reports to the Consortium Training Chief.


 


Article 36.2.f - All Battalion Chiefs shall be eligible to work Special Assignments and Special Project assignments, including those on probation at the time of assignment. 


 



  • Training Captain: Works at the South King County Fire Training Consortium and reports to the Consortium Training Chief.  Members ranked as Captain, regardless of time in grade, are deemed eligible for Staff Assignments.


 



  • Training Engineer or Firefighter: Works at the South King County Fire Training Consortium and reports to the Consortium Training Chief. First Class Firefighters are eligible to apply.  Members ranked as Engineer, with 12 months in grade, at time of appointment, are deemed eligible for Staff Assignments.


 



  • Fire Inspector - 2 Positions: Works at the Eastside Fire and Rescue Fire Marshals Office and reports to the Fire Marshal. The Fire Inspector position may be filled with any rank from within the bargaining unit.


 


Article 36.1.4.f - Engineers and Lieutenants with 12 months in grade at time of appointment, Firefighters who are First Class at the time of appointment, and Captains regardless of time in grade will be deemed qualified for Special Staff Assignment.
