Specialist Instrumentation Engineer

Purpose:
As a Specialist Senior Instrumentation Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and engineering expertise for instrumentation and controls systems across a variety of industrial and energy projects. Working on a flexible part-time basis, you will support project teams in developing safe, innovative, and cost-effective solutions while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders throughout project execution, contributing your extensive technical knowledge to deliver high-quality engineering outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Perform instrumentation engineering design and technical support for projects of varying complexity.
• Develop instrumentation design deliverables, including\: 
  • Instrument datasheets.
  •  Instrument indexes.
  • Valve and control valve specifications.
  • Loop diagrams.
  • Wiring and interconnection drawings.
  • Cause and effect matrices.
  • Control system architecture documentation.
• Support field investigations, site assessments, and troubleshooting activities as required.
• Coordinate with process, electrical, mechanical, piping, and automation disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
•  Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and client meetings.
•  Review vendor documentation and ensure alignment with project specifications.
•  Ensure designs comply with industry standards, client requirements, and applicable regulatory codes.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers while promoting engineering excellence and knowledge sharing.
   

What you will bring
Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements\: 

• Typically, 10+ years of instrumentation and controls engineering experience within the energy, chemical, refining, mining, or industrial sectors.
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation design principles and industry standards.
• Experience with distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and industrial control systems.
• Familiarity with P&IDs, process control philosophies, alarm management, and instrumentation specifications.
• Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through detailed design and construction support.
•  Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred but not required.

Additional Information: 

• This role is in the Monrovia or Long Beach CA Worley office location and not eligible to support remotely.
• May be required to travel to the vendors facilities.
• Hourly Pay Range $80.56- $105.00 commensurate with experience and level of position.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent, in related field or applicable discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred:

• Experience supporting EPC or consulting engineering projects.
• Knowledge of ISA, IEC, NFPA, and other relevant industry standards.
• Experience with brownfield modifications, debottlenecking, and facility upgrades.
• Familiarity with control system integration and automation technologies.
•  Functional Safety or SIS experience is considered an asset.
