10.5 month, Full Time (Overlapping both Day & Evening School), Role Level 3

Reports To: Evening School Principal / Dotted-lined Management Director of Specialized Services

Hours of Operation

YouthBuild Philly offers both day and evening programming. This role is full-time designed to support both programming with case management and instructional responsibilities and requires availability from 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and would straddle the day school program and evening school program in support of the case management and teaching of YouthBuild Philly Flex students.

New Staff Orientation is held August 13, 2026 & August 14, 2026.

YouthBuild Orientation (First Day of School) is August 24-27, 2026.

Who We Are

YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition free public charter high school serving young people ages 17–20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. Our program supports students in earning a high school diploma while gaining career exposure, industry certifications, and postsecondary pathways. YouthBuild operates within a restorative, community centered culture grounded in respect, excellence, and perseverance. The Evening School (YouthBuild Philly Flex) is a new program designed for students who are working during the day and need a flexible pathway to earn their diploma and build a career path.

The Opportunity

The YouthBuild Specialized Services Manager & Teacher is caring, persistent, and devoted to the development of their students. This educator plays a critical role in ensuring students with disabilities receive high-quality instruction, services, and support aligned with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The Special Education Teacher provides direct instruction, case management, and collaboration with general education teachers to ensure equitable access to rigorous coursework. This role is designed to support compliance management, IEP writing, progress monitoring and instructional duties across both programs. This role also partners closely with the Day Program Special Education team to support alignment, compliance, and continuity of services across programs.In addition to teaching responsibilities, this role includes case management and mentorship for a small cohort of students.

This role may include training, onboarding, and planning prior to the start of the school year.

Start-of-Year Planning & Orientation

  • Prior to the start of the school year, the Specialized Services Manager & Teacher will participate in onboarding, orientation, and collaborative planning to prepare for the launch of the Evening School Program. 

This includes:

  • Participating in new staff orientation and professional development
  • Collaborating with school leadership and colleagues to understand program structures, schedules, and student supports
  • Engaging in curriculum planning and unit preparation prior to the start of instruction
  • Preparing classroom systems, materials, and expectations for the start of the school year

Requirements

What You Will Do:

Responsibilities from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Serve as lead case manager for Evening School students with IEPs and ensure compliance with IDEA, state regulations, and charter authorizer requirements
  • Oversee the development, coordination, and maintenance of Special Education service schedules to ensure students receive mandated instructional supports, accommodations, related services, and interventions in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Manage the scheduling, preparation, and facilitation of IEP meetings, annual reviews, reevaluations, manifestation determination meetings, and other compliance-related student support meetings to ensure adherence to IDEA and state-mandated timelines.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for obtaining and implementing additional student support services, including related services (speech, occupational therapy, counseling, behavioral supports, transportation, assistive technology, and outside agency referrals) based on individual student needs.
  • Monitor and track all Special Education compliance deadlines, including evaluations, reevaluations, IEP annual reviews, progress reporting, procedural safeguards, and parent notifications to ensure full legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee the completion, review, and submission of Special Education documentation including evaluation requests, permissions to evaluate, reevaluation notices, IEP amendments, service logs, progress monitoring records, and compliance reports.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary team collaboration among teachers, service providers, school psychologists, counselors, administrators, and external providers to ensure seamless delivery of student services.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential Special Education student records, ensuring all documentation is properly processed, updated, archived, and accessible for audits, compliance reviews, and monitoring visits.
  • Lead internal systems for tracking service delivery minutes, provider schedules, and student caseload coverage to ensure all mandated supports are delivered consistently and without interruption.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and instructional teams to align Special Education scheduling with academic programming, vocational instruction, intervention blocks, and resource room services.
  • Partner with the Day Program Special Education team to support shared students and maintain aligned practices
  • Review and approve Special Education paperwork for quality, accuracy, and compliance, ensuring documentation reflects student needs, service delivery, accommodations, and legal requirements.
  • Develop systems and procedures for efficient Special Education workflow management, including document processing, meeting scheduling, service tracking, and compliance reporting.
  • Ensure transition planning, postsecondary supports, and outside agency coordination are completed for eligible students in accordance with graduation, career-readiness, and individualized transition goals.

Responsibilities from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

  • Write, review, and update IEPs, reevaluation reports, and progress notes; schedule and facilitate IEP meetings; collect student, family, and staff input for reevaluations and transition planning
  • Track service minutes, maintain compliance documentation, and manage special education student files in both digital and hard copy formats
  • Revise IEP goals and objectives throughout the year to support student progress and achievement
  • Collaborate with academic and workforce-development teachers to ensure accommodations and modifications are consistently implemented.
  • Develop and deliver specialized instruction, including small-group and push-in support aligned to IEP goals
  • Conduct academic and social-emotional assessments for reevaluations (WIAT-III, Woodcock-Johnson, RADS-2)
  • Facilitate a section of senior seminar or structured support time focused on postsecondary readiness.
  • Work with Student Advisors and Counseling teams to support student success
  • Track student progress, provide actionable feedback, and communicate progress through PowerSchool.
  • Collaborate in interdisciplinary teams and contribute to a flexible, highly collaborative school culture
  • Provide mentorship to a cohort of 4–5 students, offering consistent academic and personal support to help them stay on track toward meeting graduation requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Evening School Principal
