Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA): 2026-27 SY

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) provides educationally related speech and language support services to students under the supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). This role involves implementing therapy plans, assisting with assessments, and documenting student progress. The SLPA ensures students receive targeted, goal-directed interventions to achieve IEP goals and maximize measurable functional communication outcomes.

• Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders; Speech and Hearing Sciences; Speech-Language Pathology; OR a bachelor’s degree in another field with 24 credits in Speech Language Hearing Sciences
• Current certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) in Colorado
• Training in or willingness to train in nonviolent crisis intervention (CPI) techniques
• Completion of 50 contact hours of continuing education every five years to maintain SLPA certification with CDE
• Knowledge of speech and language interventions and educational best practices
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage time, organize materials, and maintain accurate data
• Patience, empathy, and commitment to supporting student development

Duties and Responsibilities

• Instruct students in individual or group settings under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist in areas including phonetics, language, fluency, oral motor, articulation and other speech-language areas.
• Communicate regularly with the supervising SLP regarding student progress, performance, and any concerns.
• Demonstrate responsiveness to SLP feedback and implement recommended changes in a timely manner.
• Implement therapy plans and IEP goals as written, ensuring sessions are structured, goal-directed, and aligned with student needs.
• Provide sufficient practice opportunities during each session to support measurable progress on targeted objectives.
• Collect and document accurate, session-based data on goals and objectives.
• Ensure regular data entry to support progress monitoring, including at least one measurable data point per objective monthly or as directed by the SLP.
• Maintain complete and timely service logs and documentation in the designated system (e.g., Enrich).
• Prepare therapy materials and supports in advance of sessions to maximize instructional time including visual, communication boards, and equipment for use in session activities.
• Assist in maintaining student records, including data tracking and progress reporting components as directed.
• Provide data updates and input for all IEP meetings as requested by the supervising SLP
• Conduct 1–2 classroom observations as required by D49.
• Provide logistical support during evaluations.
• Communicate regularly with the supervising SLP regarding student progress, performance, and concerns.
• Report any behavioral, academic, or communication concerns to supervising SLP.
• Support appropriate student behavior and engagement during therapy sessions.
• Assist with AAC implementation, including basic programming and troubleshooting under SLP guidance.
• Participate in professional development and trainings as required including CPI (non-violent crisis intervention) techniques, if applicable.
• Maintain compliance with all school, district, and state policies and procedures including safety and emergency protocols.

• Mental functions include communicating, analyzing, coordinating, instructing, evaluating, and using interpersonal skills
• Exposure to routine classroom environments with potential for sensory stimuli
