Job Description - Speech Language Pathologist / CFY


Natures Communication is seeking a STRONG Speech-Language Pathologist to join our Therapy Services team in Tacoma, Washington.

Direct Patient Care Responsibilities



  1. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of pediatrics, adolescents and adults.

  2. Evaluates patients for speech-language pathology treatment, including equipment, home programs, etc.

  3. Independently provides and coordinates age-appropriate speech-language pathology consultation, treatment plans and treatment in routine patient care situations.

  4. Completes timely documentation.

  5. May begin to investigate specialty areas within the speech-language pathology discipline.



Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities



  1. Assesses existing and develops new activities that promote general knowledge and professionalism within the department; participates in peer review process. Attends in-services/continuing education, provides updates in the form of in-services to the department.

  2. Participates in activities to increase community awareness and clinic marketability. Attends monthly program meetings. Contributes to achievement of clinic goals.

  3. Assists in mentoring affiliating speech-language pathology students, new speech-language pathology staff, support personnel and volunteers. Adequately and appropriately supervises CFY staff. Assists with department-wide student teaching; participates in student and volunteer program organization.

  4. Participates in single discipline, multi-disciplinary and specialty teams. Assists in maintenance of department space and equipment.

  5. Contributes to the growth and development of specialty areas within the speech-language pathology discipline. Develops ties with professional organizations. Provides educational in-services and experiences to the discipline/program and outside community. Attends speech-language pathology meetings as scheduled. May participate in promotional activities for speech-language pathology and/or Natures Communication Center.

  6. Completes Natures Communication annual mandatory in-service training. Maintains CPR requirements.

  7. Regular attendance is required.

    Requirements:



  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or its equivalent from an ASHA-accredited university.

  • Washington State SLP License to practice Speech-Language Pathology.

  • AHSA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) in-process with goal of achieving CCC-SLP within 10-12 months.

  • CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certification within 6 months of date of hire.

  • Member of professional specialty organizations (ASHA, State Speech and Hearing Assoc.) preferred.

  • Must have the ability to work well with others.

  • Good communications skills are required, both written and verbal.

  • Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatrics preferred.

  • Experience with physically and/or mentally challenged populations preferred.

  • Familiarity with speech and language development, deviation and disorders.

  • Familiarity with assessment scales and instruments, techniques of assessment, and intervention with pediatric populations.
