Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)

PRN up to 10 hours a week| Rehabilitation Services

What You’ll Do

As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will evaluate, diagnose, and treat speech, language, communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders for patients across the lifespan. You will work collaboratively with patients, families, providers, and rehabilitation team members to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that support optimal outcomes. In this role, you will:

• Assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.


• Obtain information from physicians, providers, patients, and caregivers to develop individualized plans of care.


• Conduct evaluations and provide evidence-based treatment interventions to support patient goals and functional outcomes.


• Collaborate with radiology staff and providers to perform and make recommendations from video swallow fluoroscopy studies.


• Document evaluations, treatment plans, daily treatment notes, and progress updates accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.


• Supervise Speech Therapy Assistants, technicians, and rehabilitation support staff as appropriate.


• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, staff conferences, in-services, and continuing education opportunities.


• Maintain current clinical knowledge and licensure requirements through ongoing professional development.


• Work with insurance providers to obtain pre-authorizations and re-authorizations as required.


• Provide education and support to patients and families regarding treatment plans and home programs.


• Perform other duties as assigned by the Rehabilitation Director.

Required Education

• Completion of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology educational program

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Active license to practice Speech-Language Pathology in the State of Iowa


• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Licenses & Certifications

• Valid driver's license

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to assess and treat a wide range of speech, language, communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team


• Effective documentation and organizational skills


• Ability to work with patients across all age groups, from pediatrics to geriatrics

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience in inpatient, outpatient, or rehabilitation settings is preferred but not required
