Job Description - Spinal Cord Injury Physiatrist/Full time

Job Summary: The Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) physiatrist cares for patients with SCI in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Responsible for the medical management of the patient from admission to discharge (as well as outpatient follow-up services, as needed). Responsible to the Division Medical Director of the SCI Program. Works closely and collaboratively with the Division Medical Director of the SCI Program as well as the other physicians, nurses and therapists at Gaylord

Communication and Collaboration:

Provides medical care which is technically competent and consistent with current standards for this specialty.
Is available to physician colleagues for formal and informal consultations.
Will communicate with clinical team members regularly about patient issues.
Conducts or participates in in-service training for clinical staff.
Promotes a positive representation of the hospital and/or clinical program to the organization and the community, including participating in community-oriented programs and presentations.

Undertakes only those clinical procedures for which delineated privileges have been requested, clinical competence has been demonstrated, and have been approved by the Board of Directors of Gaylord Hospital.
Takes an active interest in the development of the hospital program and its clinical staff and participates actively in program committees.

Becomes actively involved in various administrative committees and projects as determined by the CMO or designees
Conducts Unit Team meetings effectively and participates actively in problem identification and conflict resolution affecting function of team and program. Utilizes skills of team personnel effectively in managing patients.

Manages a number of inpatients (and outpatients, if required) appropriate to the specialty and case-mix of the patients and documents and bills accurately.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a graduate of an approved medical school, completed an approved residency program in PM&R.
Should be a graduate of a SCI Fellowship and either Board Eligible or Board Certified in SCI medicine.
Must meet the standards for appointment to the Medical Staff of Gaylord Hospital and be approved by the Gaylord Hospital Board of Directors.
Requires a current Connecticut State medical license and a current Federal and Connecticut State controlled substance registration.
Must maintain Board certification in the appropriate specialty.
Must hold a membership in a regional or national medical society
Supervises the team providing patient care, which may include APRN’s, PA’s, residents and students.
