We’re looking for a Staff Attorney interested in short term leadership opportunities. This role is primarily focused on growth, and external engagement, including developing and maintaining relationships with large clients, generating new clients, and representing the organization publicly. This position will receive training in nonprofit law from our in house team, with leadership opportunities available (not guaranteed) within 2-3 years. This position reports to the Managing Attorney.
Ideally, this candidate will have a strong track record of attracting and retaining clients and public speaking. Experience in tax exempt law is a plus, but not required. This role is outward-facing, representing the organization by speaking at industry events, faith-based organizations, webinars, podcasts and other relevant events. This person will serve the legal needs of large clients and play a central role in expanding the organization’s reach.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Staff Attorney – Strategy & Growth include:
Leading client development and relationship-building efforts, particularly with large nonprofit clients, associations, and aligned networks
Acting as a public face of the organization at conferences, on webinars, and at other events, with the ability to speak accurately and engagingly on tax-exempt law (after training provided)
Providing high-level legal counsel to nonprofit organizations including churches, ministries, foundations, and other nonprofit organizations
Providing updates and ideas to leadership about new ways of engaging new and current clients
Developing and maintaining relationships that drive consistent program service revenue
Managing relationships and projects with the clients, including strategic legal direction, delegation of work, and oversight of project execution
Attending CLE and other professional training to prepare for leadership opportunities
Preparing and presenting materials for trainings with clients and stakeholders
Promoting alignment with the organization’s core values and contributing to a positive, mission-driven workplace culture
Compensation
$80,000–$125,000, including bonuses
Qualifications
4-6 years of experience in practicing law, experience in tax exempt law appreciated but not required
JD from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in Indiana
Strong relationship-building, networking, and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to attract, grow, and retain clients
Desire to grow professionally, including desire to enter into a leadership role within 2-3 years
Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of nonprofit organizations including politically conservative and/or faith-based organizations
Comfortability with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Helpful Additional Experience (Not Required)
Existing relationships within the nonprofit or tax-exempt sector
Experience in public speaking
Experience advising large or complex nonprofit organizations on strategic legal matters
Exposure to human resources or personnel leadership, such as hiring, supervision, or performance management
