Queen’s Pain Management provides all of the contemporary interventions to manage pain. Through these specific interventions, pain is targeted at the site of origin. This specificity improves outcomes and reduces reliance on medications to manage pain. It also helps us meet our goal of managing pain without prescribing non-specific and addictive opiate medications.
As a component of the Pain & Spine Center, our Pain Managements specialists work closely with the Orthopedic Spine Center to provide comprehensive management of spine and pain related conditions.
JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Pain Clinic Physician provides comprehensive clinical services through direct patient care and collaborates with the Director to develop and implement clinical standards, protocols, services, and quality management initiatives for the Pain Clinic.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver efficient, culturally sensitive, cost-effective, and high-quality medical care in the Pain Clinic.
  • Evaluate inpatient and outpatient cases to determine treatment needs, follow-up care, rehabilitation, behavioral health, or surgical services, and provide appropriate treatment.
  • Manage acute and chronic pain patients, including surgical and non-surgical cases, utilizing various treatment modalities such as medication management, interventional procedures, and surgical procedures.
  • Communicate with patients’ primary care or referring physicians to ensure coordination and continuity of care.
  • Participate in community activities and events promoting pain prevention and wellness.
  • Attend weekly multidisciplinary patient care conferences and daily hospital rounds as needed.
  • Serve as an educational resource for patients, physicians, house staff, nurses, and ancillary staff.
  • Educate the community about Pain Clinic services and availability.
  • Function as lead physician for the multidisciplinary clinic, overseeing APRNs and clinical support staff; conduct clinics and informational sessions for the team.
  • Provide call coverage to ensure continuity of care for the patient population.
  • Assist with departmental research activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or ECFMG certification.
  • Completion of a residency or fellowship training program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Current board certification in Anesthesiology or Pain Medicine by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty certification board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or AOA. If not board certified, board certification must be obtained within two (2) years of entrance into the position.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QMC medical staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
  • Eligible for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, preferred.
  • Experience in Outpatient Pain Management Programs preferred.
Base salary begins at $442,492/year with opportunity for productivity and quality incentives.
