Position Summary
The Starbucks Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the in-store Starbucks operation, including customer service, beverage quality, food safety, sales growth, team development, inventory management, and financial performance. This position ensures the department consistently delivers a welcoming café experience, maintains Starbucks brand standards, and operates efficiently while achieving sales and profitability goals.
Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Guest Experience
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience by creating a friendly, engaging, and welcoming environment.
- Promote a culture of customer connection and service excellence.
- Resolve customer concerns and service issues promptly and professionally.
- Lead associates in providing fast, accurate, and courteous service.
- Build customer loyalty through consistent product quality and service standards.
Department Operations
- Oversee daily Starbucks operations, including beverage production, food preparation, merchandising, inventory management, and sanitation.
- Ensure all beverages and food items are prepared according to Starbucks and company standards.
- Maintain proper inventory levels through effective ordering, receiving, and product rotation practices.
- Monitor product quality, freshness, presentation, and availability.
- Ensure department equipment is operational, maintained, and cleaned according to standards.
- Execute promotional programs, seasonal launches, and merchandising initiatives.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop Starbucks associates.
- Create schedules that support operational needs while effectively managing labor expenses.
- Provide ongoing performance feedback, coaching, and recognition.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
- Ensure associates are properly trained in beverage preparation, food safety, customer service, and operational procedures.
Financial Management
- Manage department sales, labor, gross profit, shrink, and operating expenses.
- Analyze sales reports and operational metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop action plans to achieve sales, profitability, and productivity goals.
- Control inventory and supply costs while maintaining service and product quality.
- Support inventory counts and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and Starbucks operating standards.
- Monitor food handling, storage, labeling, and temperature control procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout all preparation, storage, and customer areas.
- Ensure all associates follow company and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct routine inspections and address operational concerns promptly.
Safety & Asset Protection
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment for associates and customers.
- Ensure proper operation and safe handling of equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Follow company accident prevention and incident reporting procedures.
- Support shrink reduction and asset protection initiatives.
- Maintain security of cash, inventory, and company assets.
Store Leadership Support
- Collaborate with store leadership to support overall store goals and customer satisfaction initiatives.
- Participate in store meetings, planning activities, and cross-functional projects.
- Serve as Manager on Duty when assigned.
- Support company programs and operational priorities.
- Communicate department goals, expectations, and performance results effectively.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous food service, coffee shop, restaurant, or retail leadership experience required.
- Strong customer service and team leadership skills.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, lift, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance when necessary.
- Ability to operate coffee, espresso, blending, and food service equipment safely.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced food service environment.
