Registered Nurse (RN) – Stepdown/Medical-Surgical

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) for a contract assignment in the Stepdown/Medical-Surgical unit at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital in Morgantown, WV. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a fast-paced academic medical center caring for patients with complex medical and surgical conditions while collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Patient Ratios

• Stepdown Unit: 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio
  

• Medical-Surgical Unit: 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
  

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult Stepdown and Medical-Surgical patients.
  

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
  

• Monitor patients requiring a higher level of observation and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
  

• Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately.
  

• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and other members of the healthcare team.
  

• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  

• Adhere to hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and patient safety standards.
  

• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to quality patient outcomes.
  

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in any U.S. state.
  

• A West Virginia RN license is not required at the time of application. Candidates may apply without a WV license in hand and obtain licensure prior to the start of the assignment, if required by the facility.
  

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  

• Current BLS Certification required.
  

• Current ACLS Certification required.
  

• Minimum of 2 years of recent Stepdown, Progressive Care (PCU), Telemetry, or Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred.
  

• Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center or Teaching Hospital is highly preferred.
  

• Strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
  

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
  

Important Assignment Requirements

• Local candidates will not be considered.
  

• Applicants must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this contract assignment.
  

• Must meet all facility credentialing and onboarding requirements prior to the start of the assignment.
