Structural Steel Fabrication Lead

Starting Pay: $30.00/hour (Higher pay available based on experience)
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fabrication Lead to coordinate daily shop activities and support a team of fitters, welders, and fabrication employees. This is a hands-on leadership position focused on production flow, quality, safety, and meeting project schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily fabrication activities to meet production and delivery schedules.
- Lead and support fitters, welders, and fabrication personnel on the shop floor.
- Assign work and balance workloads to maintain productivity.
- Provide hands-on guidance with fit-up, welding, layout, and blueprint interpretation.
- Troubleshoot fabrication and production issues and communicate concerns to shop leadership.
- Monitor workflow and provide updates on production progress and schedule changes.
- Reinforce safety procedures, quality requirements, and shop policies.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to help minimize equipment downtime.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Support employee training, onboarding, and performance development.
- Work with Quality Control to verify fabricated steel meets required standards.
- Assist with dimensional checks, inspections, and production documentation.
- Perform other shop leadership responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience leading or supervising structural steel fabrication teams.
- Strong hands-on experience with welding, fit-up, layout, and structural steel fabrication.
- Experience operating or working around CNC fabrication equipment and shop machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and blueprints.
- Understanding of production workflows, quality requirements, and workplace safety practices.
- Tekla EPM/GO experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, or flexible schedules when production requirements call for it.
