Summer Academy Advisor
Advisors will serve as instructional leaders responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned learning experiences to high school participants participating in the Louisiana Department of Education Aspiring Educators Summer Academy. Advisors will facilitate engaging, structured sessions focused on college and career readiness, education pathways, and professional skill development. This role mirrors instructional expectations of certified educators.
Job responsibilities
Instruction & Facilitation (25%):
Plan and deliver daily instructional sessions aligned with Summer Academy curriculum
Implement evidence-based instructional practices (e.g., explicit instruction, modeling, guided practice)
Facilitate whole group, small group, and interactive learning experiences
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs
Student Support & Supervision (25%):
Supervise and actively engage students throughout all scheduled activities
Establish and maintain a structured, positive learning environment
Support student participation, collaboration, and behavior expectations
Serve as a mentor and role model for aspiring educators
Program Implementation (25%):
Collaborate with coaches to support instructional delivery and student engagement
Follow all program schedules, procedures, and safety protocols
Take and submit daily attendance and participation data
Support transitions between sessions, meals, and activities
Compliance & Safety (20%)
Adhere to all university Youth Protection policies and procedures
Maintain appropriate supervision ratios at all times
Complete all required background checks and trainings prior to program start
Other duties as assigned (5%)
Additional Information
Advisors will be accompanying students while on campus. That will require ability to walk long distances frequently in Louisiana summer weather. This position and/or position's responsibilities require work directly with minors. Finger printing and National Sex Offender Registry check required per FASOP HR-04. As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
At least 1 year of teaching in birth to 12 school setting.
Experience teaching or working with pre-educator pathway students
Strong classroom management and instructional skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Must hold current Louisiana teaching certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with secondary students (grades 9-12)
Experience with college and career readiness programming
Familiarity with evidence-based instructional practices
Record of professional development delivery.
